 So my father has a 02 Mountaineer and went up the street to get some ice about an hour ago. Opon arriving home he had a small coolant leak we could see dripping. I crawled under to check it out and there was a rubber hose that went to a metal line, then back to a rubber hose. It had rusted through so bad it just sprung a leak. As soon as I touched it coolant started dumping out. It look like the coolant hose was going to the oil filter assemebley, and the port on that looks just as rusted. Anyone else had this problem? I'm also assuming this has got to be the orignal hose. I am glad it happened at home instead of out on the highway or somthing that would of been no good at all!

Good find - when easier to fix. Not stranded that is.

I think what you have there is a leak on the coolant system plumbing that goes to the oil filter for purposes of cooling the oil.

That is a lot of corrosion on the tubing - do you live in an area that salts the roads?

Mine looks nothing like that. Just saying.

Yeah, I was wondering why coolant hoses were going back there. Makes sense though, but I'm in Maryland. We don't get much snow around here at all. Mabey one or two good snow storms a year if were lucky, no clue how that got so bad. I'm just worried about the part the hose connects to on the oil filter assemebley. I wonder if that just unscrews or if you have to replace the whole thing. Just dont want to replace that hose than spring a leak right at the oil filter and do this all over again you know!

I searched and found this. this is also my first post.

I have a similar issue, I have developed a leak at the "crimped" metal connection I believe. I'm going to check it out tonight and hopefully get a replacement hose so I can fix it this weekend. The crimped part I'm having problems with is the lower (left side) coolant hose
I don't have the rust problem though.

Annapolis, MD is located right on the shores of the ocean right? Then your rust problem is most likely due to sea water spray from the ocean or salt water.

here is my problem:
