I have a question about My truck but first I would like to explain

I have 96k miles and about two weeks ago a was running down interstate and the overdrive light came on. I continued to drive for about 40 miles.

I pull up to a stop sign and the truck would not move.
I got it pulled to a tranny shop and found the T/converter was gone.
Shop told me he had seen this b/4 and that it was a Ford problem

now for my question --- I pull a trailer and hual a UTV with a combined weight of around 3000 LBS --- is that to much weight for that tranny and would an additional cooler keep it from happening again

any help could be used

thanks bdk

Adding a cooler to a new/replacement tranny is never a bad idea. That much weight may be boardering on the limit. IMOP

When a torque converter is doing it's job(not locked up), it generates heat. Heat kills transmissions.

Towing 3000lbs will work the torque converter harder than normal.

Installing an addition cooler will help, but it won't let you know when you are abusing your transmission. You still need to install a transmission oil temperature gauge.

I have transmission temperature gauges in both of my Explorers. And I have two transmission coolers and had an external transmission oil filter installed on my 2000 Explorer Limited, which I have done lots of towing with. I have 127,000 miles on that truck an it's still going strong.
