Strong Work Fella !

I loved my 03 XLS, but my 05 just looks so much nicer, and has everything I wanted in an X.

If your gonna mod...

heres a free one - remove airbox silencer - makes the X sound beefier

or just do the airbox mod, and buy a K&N filter...

Airbox silencer, how do i do that? does it have any other qualities other than sound?

Sorry about this post. I found Caldwell's thread. Thanks Caldwell!

^ No Prob Fella

The new explorer with good ol' big red. The red explorer is a 1998, with 169K miles, and the new 2005 has 61K. Incase your wondering, it was bought OTD for a little over $13K. And i just realized on my 05 explorer... :( I think the throttle is electronically controlled. Not like my old explorer where its got the cable. I can't find a damn cable leading to the throttle body. Oh well, not too big of an issue.

Nice Explorer..and good price u paid for it as well....

i have one question: what is the difference(in driving) with the cable and the electronically controlled? Is it harder to drive than the cable?

you answred your own question fella...

one is mechanincal / one is electronic lol

Awesome! Nice stable you got going there!! :salute:

LOL..I know but I meant in driving wise, is one better or difficult to drive with than the other?

Its just my preference. I prefer the "old school" throttle cable. The electronic seems to be just as good as any mechanical one. Driving them, my old 98, 4.0 OHV seems to be slower, than my new 4.0 SOHC.

Update: 1 1/2 months and lovin it!

Well I've had my explorer 1 1/2 months approx and so far I love the car. Want to say another thanks to everyone who helped me make the decision, by telling me what's good and bad. As you all see from my registry thread that my explorer has seen some changes. And there are most definately more to come!
First Day I bought the car!

Only bad thing so far: The differential, that whine bothers me :D

Once again,
Thanks explorer forum,
Nate

go on youtube and search rental car. people destroy rentals. i will never buy a used rental car
I bought a 1987 Riviera in 1992, Rental car, no problems, 3.8L V6, great car.
Just sold it after 18 years, it was fully loaded!

Same with my 98 explorer. It was bought in 99 after one year use as a rental with 15K miles. Not many problems with it. Some rental car companies keep their cars maintained better than personal owners.

I love my 2002. After 8 years I still get compliments. Just got two compliments this past weekend. Although, I've been having the typical transmission issue that so many have. With around 108K miles I think I'm gonna need to have the transmission re-built.

Very nice X. Rims look good.

Nice Explorer!

I purchased my '02 with 39k miles on it, it is just now a bit shy of 80k miles and I have had no engine, transmission, differential or any sort of drive line problems at all. I do flush my transmission and change the differential oil every 25k miles though. So I think you will do well as long as you maintain it well.
