flowmaster 40 db's at 2000-3000 rpm sohc

gday again everyone, my muffler shop is gonna do me a cat back 2 1/2" system. i'm sourcing my own muffler and wanted to know if anyone can tell me the db's a flowmaster 40 series puts out at 2000 & 3000 rpms on a 4.0 sohc? in my state 89db is the limit. WOT isnt an issue but if the muffler i put on is louder than 89 (and i get caught) yellow sticker time (unroadworthy) & i'll have to put the stock pipes/muffler back on and get all emissions tests done just to get the canary removed any help appreciated - cheers

What are the conditions for the measurement? 89dB is arbitrary without constraints.

measurement is taken from around 5ft away from the tailpipe , the vehicle while in neutral is slowly revved up to 3000rpm then backed off ,so if there is any gurgling or backfiring its caught on the device.

I found one db test for a v6 mustang motor,3.7 lt i think - flowmaster american thunder 87db @ 3000 rpm. so im thinking bugger it, get the muffler i want and like you said in a different thread morziac, dont drive like a ********. worst case scenario if its too loud i'll get a resonated tip.

me son's 12 1/2 and whilst what ive done most will laugh, im just trying to get him to dig the blue oval. give him a couple of years and he'll laugh at me too!!

haha nice touch with the xr6 badges mate. i like the scoop and strpies too mate , would love to put a nice moulded scoop on mine , but the boss wont let me lol.

i've got a bit of rust under the paint on the corners and front of me bonnet so i thought i'll have to sort that one day but until then i'd have a bit of a play. i'd to get the xc moulded scoop with vents but their a bit bloody pricey.

yeh i got rust in mine too, ive started looking into gettin it fixed and might get some nostrils either like the xb or xc's had or maybe something like the newer mustangs have got put in at the same time. Theres a wicked spraypainter up here that sai he'd do it no dramas , just need to decide wat.

hey u wouldnt by any chance want a set of chrome limited rims with tires would ya? i got a spare set i was thinking about selling to fund more upgrades

nah im pretty happy with my rims (so far) i checked out eb motors for hood scoops and found these i might go the duals next time
