im from abilene TX, but live in germany (military)

i was wondering why my explorer has a power lag, it feels like a stutter, or a miss, when im accelerating, it will have a stutter like its low on fuel, or a spark plug is fowled. the gas mileage is lower than it should be, and i think its lagging in horse power. it does ok off road, but i think it has more HP/Torque than its giving me. Any tips? :salute:

TPS, MAF, fuel, EGR?

What engine do you have?
Are any DTCs set?
If the fuel filter hasn't been replaced in the last 30,000 miles I suggest you do that followed by adding fuel injector cleaner to the tank.
Clean the MAF sensor with MAF sensor cleaner.
Check the TPS output voltage from idle to WOT.
Make sure the EGR valve isn't sticking open.

hey thanks for the advice, i dont think the fuel filter has been changed.

how do you change the fuel filter?

i was wondering what is the best way to change the fuel filter, is there any special tools i might need? its a 1999 xlt, with a 4.0 SOHC :us:

there is a special tool to remove the fuel filter. autozone( or any part store) will have them. Plastic ring to separate filter from fuel line. only cost a few bucks

I'd look into plugs & wires... anytime I've had a "stutter" or "hesitation" like that, it was always the wires. I replaced plugs too because I was already in the neighborhood :).
