I gotta say it's mostly an on road vehicle, come on; don't the majority of Explorers (and other SUV's for that matter) go to women? They pretty much replaced mini-vans as the soccer mom vehicle of choice. Or in the case of the Hummer H2 men trying to compensate for some other shortcoming.
I mean if this was the early 90's and someone asked me "Do you think Broncos are mostly on road, off road, or a mix" I would then say mix, because they were just F-150's with seats in the bed. 100% of the people I personally know that own explorers use them as on road vehicles; myself included - this thing is too pretty to beat the bag out of on a trail or mud bog, and besides it doesn't have the ground clearance for it (stock anyways); thats what my 93 F-150 with 3/4ton suspension is for... I dunno maybe it's different elsewhere. Oh I should mention, I don't know any men (aside from myself) that own an Explorer, only women. The guys I know that own something with a worthy tow rating own Trucks; and most of those are primarily on road vehicles too. Take for instance, my Brother - 2009 F350 Diesel he uses for Work (hauling a bobcat, sanding, plowing, gen. construction etc.) awesome truck, but an on road vehicle. He has a 1977 F-350 with a 400M, 4-spd, 4wd and stump pulling gears (4:56's, straight axle front end, locker rear) for off roading, and although it red lines at about 55mph in 4th gear, it's great for bogging, or trail riding, and parts are CHEAP!

That'll stir the pot mate!

Post #11::crazy:

I cant wait til some more people read this:popcorn:

I personally do think the majority of the 3rd gens are on-road, ONLY because theyre newer and alot nicer than the 1st and 2nd gens which seem to be the prime trail rig on the forum. However, would I go and say that theyre just soccer mom vehicles? Hell no! If I had the money, I would love to lift a 3rd gen, and off road with it.

Going to be the creative bump thread before too much longer...

BrianDye:
The second gens and 1st gens have a lot better stuff. My bumper got scuffed because the back of my X slid into a metal pole. The second gen wouldn't have had that issue. I do agree they are not soccer mom vehicles (unless you make em that), but that is the image america and several other countries has given them. :mad:

I can't believe you put in that f*****' video!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D

Haha, that vid is hilarious... glad they have rules about clothing required in the NYC subway/bus system.

I'm a home brewer so stirring the pot comes naturally ;-)

If I had "the money" I'd have a custom built rig for off-roading; nothing beats old American Iron for off roading and mudding though - F series with a 6-foot box, regular cab, Rangers are sweet too (and thus early gen explorers), but I'd prefer the torque of a V-8 (only for flinging mud, the 4.0L has proven itself on the trails) stuff gets expensive on these new jobs; although the IRS could be pretty decent for rock crawling... high travel suspension, taller tires, hacked out quarters, maybe when its 15 years old or so it could become a dedicated trail rig, but not when its this "young"...

I wasn't trying to say that only "soccer moms" drove these things, but the "SUV revolution" happened because Women wanted a truck too, just not one as "icky" or "ugly" as their husbands work truck.

Man i used those " " all the freakin time... and the ( ) as well.. anywho

I have no witty bump photo or video, so I just stop here...
