Don't know about an '02 but on this 06+ forum, it's 2.5"

Is the Flowmaster 70 muffler too long to fit on our 4th gen V8 Explorers?

I doubt it. I've got plenty of room around mine on my 3rd Gen.

previous owners of my 01 sport had dual 70 series flowmasters on my 01 sport and it sounded to quiet and then i got rid of them and put the 40 series on it.

i got single in and dual out but i was thinkin of putting true duals

You are correct, the muffler and resonator combined length is huge on the gen4 Explorer. I ended up with a 21 or 22 inch Magnaflow being installed after removal of original muffler and resonator.

The exhaust is 2.5" factory. The unit before the muffler (looking from rear of truck) is the resonator, not a cat. The last cat is way up near the front of the trans. Besides...don't both cats have sensors?

You can't go wrong with Magnalfow. I LOVE the sound. Honestly...if it's not a Magnaflow....just go to your local muffler shop and have something welded in lol.

Flowmaster is a good one but EVERYONE has Flowmasters because they cost less than Magnaflow mufflers. You get what you pay for.

Yes my muffler shop owner said the same thing about location of cats.

He removed/cut out the old muffler and resonator as a big 1 piece section, so that I can have it reinstalled later for resale purposes.

Still enjoying the Magnaflow so far...
