My center arm rest (99 4 Door) has broken. Should I replace the whole center unit, or can the arm rest be repaired? Does the center unit come out easily?

And what is the little oval shaped rectangular loop for?

Thanks.

Replacements from salvage are usually cheap. Make sure you flip it up and inspect for any cracks in plastic. Remove the hinge screws for a quick easy swap.

Glad that will work...

That's one thing I don't really dig about RockAuto's interactive catalog, the page linking. I usually link that page, as it shows the part number, and the site.

Not a problem, at least you linked the tutorial, I couldn't get that from the part number. Could be Google Chrome though.

I installed the metal repair bracket a while back, talk about "bulletproof".
Removing the pivot bolt is slightly challenging, and don't overtighten the underside screws.
Rectangular loop is for the canvas carry bag you don't have shown.
One for sale @ MySportTrac.com swap & sell if interested. (8/2/11

I received the repair bracket today. swshawaii is correct that removing the pivot bolt is a challenge. One side of it has a plastic cap. I set the pivot assembly on a 14mm deep socket (too small, use a 15mm or a 9/16") and drove out the pivot pin (it's not really a bolt). Anyway, it makes a more solid arm rest, you do have to sacrifice the flimsy rear seat cup holders though. Since I have a 45# dog that insists on resting on the arm rest, this was a great solution for me.
