99 ford explorer
so i just bought a 99 ford explorer a few months ago and so far im loving it. 2wd sport 4.0 ohv. my question today is i have a rattling sound i cant pinpoint where its coming from sounds like a sticky lifter to me. from all the posts im seeing on the interweb lol i assume its the timing chain tensioner so i bought the whole set (chain sprockets guide etc) if it is the tentioner should i replece just that or do it all since im in there and how can i know for sure thats the problem looks like alot of work for nothing. any help would be greatly appreciated

Does the OHV V6 set you purchased look like the one shown below?

Or did you purchase the one for the SOHC V6 that commonly has timing chain rattle?

Is the 8th digit in your VIN an "X" meaning OHV V6 or an "E" meaning SOHC V6?

sorry took so long yes the top one is what i perchased and finnaly instlled it helped on most of the rattling but still seems to have a slight chatter at idle and if i rev the motor its a chatter sound from undernieth the vehicle
