RJ45 Jack

What is the RJ45 Jack for in my 97 Explorer?

Its RJ45 because it has 8 pins and a regular telephone cable will not plug into it.
Its in my center console.....

RJ45? Prolly a Cat5 conex for the third row LAN. Very rare option on the '97 model year.

Added this picture:

Left: Plugs into CD Changer
Right: RJ45 Jack....

The cable for the RJ45 Jack goes into the wiring harness for the center console.
I took the console apart to deep clean....

First post says that a phone jack doesn't fit. Phones use RJ12.

I think some stereo equipment uses an RJ45 jack, an amp an equaliser or maybe a CD stacker.
I don't think it would be standard.

I do believe it is factory as I have the same plug in my '97 Eddie Bauer.
No clue what it is used for, but it is there. I just assumed old style car
phone jack.

I wonder if it was for a NAV system or something. Very odd how it's in the factory harness like that.

It was a factory option cell phone jack.

The only phone that I know of that uses RJ45 is a IP Phone.

The phone jack RJ11 can plug in the RJ45 socket.

Older cell phone handsets used the rj45 to connect to the base

Yes, I read that, but what else could it be for? Old style 90's car phones used a wide plug like that (see photo provided above).
