I have a limited 2000 Explorer, 4wd 4.0 L and was wondering about getting a lift. I take the truck off roading fairly often but I always encounter a problem clearing the ground I'm on. The truck is currently in the shop getting the engine replaced, and the entire suspension system is about 6 months old now, so I want to get the most out of the parts before I replace any of that. So I was wondering what is the most cost effective and efficient lift I should get? How long should I wait before replacing any suspension parts for the lift so I can get the most out of them?

For the rear use a set of Warrior shackles and an Add A Leaf spring.

I ended up with new springs. I used the heaviest spring I could find for the Ranger, they are the same size. This got me about 3 1/2" with the Warriors.

In the front there are two schools of thought. Some say just twist your torsion keys, this will give you lift. Up to two inches without binding your half shafts into early failure.

I went with new reindexed torsion keys, my ride did not get any harsher. You get the same amount of lift. I ended up with just over 2" from where mine had settled over the years.

Rancho has shocks specifically made for this lift. Do yourself a favor and get them. I tried with the shocks for the stock ride height and after putting the ones on for the lift, wow what a difference.

I'm sure you'll get several different opinions.

What part of Charlotte are you in?

I'm a part timer in Ballantyne now with most of my time in south FL.

Good Luck

I'm running 275/70/18 Coopers on my 02 'Mounty' with this set up and it still handles great. There isn't any of that tippy feeling some lifted trucks have.

Crank your torsion bars up. It ruins the ride because you lose wheel travel. But it lifts the front end. Get an alignment afterwards. Other than the alignment, the cost is FREE.

Get the Warrior 153 shackles in the rear. These might lead to your leaf springs flattening out quicker, but it will lift the back a couple inches. Cost is less than $200.

Add-a-leaf to the rear spring pack. Or look into the F-150 spring swap.

For tires you should be running 32" at minimum for offroad. Larger tires are the only thing that will lift the low hanging differential.

This is pretty much the recipe that everyone follows. I did for awhile- before I went with a solid axle swap.

Thanks guys, the truck was towed today so i have to wait until it gets back to look at the torsion bars, but I'll look into the warriors

I don't know what size tires I have currently, they're still the stock limited rims on the wheels, can the explorer fit 32"?

I'm in Matthews Tequila, lived here all my life

I did everything they said plus a 2" body and I have 33's with plenty of clearance.

Awesome, all this will really save me some money

Yes. You'll probably need at least a 2" body lift as well. I also did a 2". Here's everything I mentioned with my 2" body lift and 33" tires:

Someone help please?

Thanks,

you could use longer shackles, but they're not legal here.

alternatively higher rated leafs.
