what's the difference??

Just looking for a quick difference or definition between 4.5 on 5 and 5 on 5.5. The first gen X is a 4.5 on 5 right? Will a 5 on 5.5 fit and where does that name or measurement come from?

all explorers are 5 bolts so they are 5 on X I think all explorers excluding the 2002 is 5 on 4.5

that's too bad. i found some nice 15x8 black powder coated rims and some 15x10 indy style 5-slot rims both 5x5.5. guess i'll keep lookin.

The 5 refers to the # of lug bolts. The 4.5 refers to the bolt patern which is 4.5in.
Hopefully this will help.

AHHHHHHH!

Sorry about that. I had to resize the what I scanned and now it is too small to read.

Thanks Dan, ya can still get the gist of what they're measuring to get 4.5 inches.

5 X 5.5 were used on Jeeps and Ford Vans and F-series up to '96. In '97 Ford went to something else.
