2014 Ford PIU
I've been doing some modifications to my 2014 PIU, and noticed ever since I got the vehicle back in May that the top-down car display on the Trip Computer doesn't do anything. I've never owned or driven any other 11-15 Fords, so I don't know if that's supposed to be a static display or if it animates like the several 16+ Fords I've driven (17 Escape, 18 Focus).

If the 11-15 Explorers with the Type 1 IPC just have a static car display, and it doesn't do anything, is there a setting in Forscan to activate it? Is there a setting like on the 16+ models to hide it? Thanks!

If I understand the question correctly, the display on my Platinum will show the static outline of the vehicle along with any coloured areas that the sensors feel are close to the Explorer. I don't know if the PIU is set up the same way. This is the way the Manual describes it.
Obstacle Distance Indicator (if equipped)
The system will provide an image of your
vehicle and the sensor zones. The zones
will highlight green, yellow and red when
the parking aid sensors detect an object in
the coverage area.

The car display, as far as I can tell, is only on Type 1 panels with analog RPM and Speedometer gauges. It's also on the Taurus, Escape, Focus, and other vehicles.

I've driven a 2017 Escape and a 2018 Focus and the car display shows headlights on, brake lights or taillights on, doors open, etc. I just want to know if the car display on 11-15 model Explorers does anything or if I can remove it. I don't have proximity sensors since I'm in a PIU so I wouldn't see that. In the uploaded picture of my dash, I'm talking about the car picture above the mileage.

I am not familiar with that display so I guess we'll have to wait for another member to chime in. If you don't get a reply here, just contact me at some time and I can move the thread to the PIU subforum. Good luck.

Is the top-down car display on the trip computer in a 2011-2015 PIU supposed to do anything? My 2014 PIU is my first experience with any Ford of that generation. I've driven a 2017 Escape and a 2018 Focus, both of which also feature the top-down car display, which animates with open and closed doors, headlights, etc.

If the PIU car display doesn't do anything, can it be removed via Forscan? Or does it have to be enabled?

Attached is a picture of the car display in question. Not the one in the Intelligent AWD display. The one to the right of the display. Imgur

Doesn't seem to do anything on mine. Doesn't even show the lights on, like it does on my Focus.

I'm not sure if it can display anything else, but the only two things I have found to display there on my 16/17 are the image of the vehicle or the status of the AUX switches. The vehicle display did not seem to do anything on mine.

2016-18 Police Utility Forscan Settings has the Forscan location for the changes to right half of base IPC display on 16-18, not sure if it's the same as the 13-15 PIU.

Your 2 threads have been merged.

On my 18 the Top Down display (took me a while to figure out what that was) shows the back up warning zones when in reverse. It's shown on the "radio" display, back up camera image is on the rear view mirror.

That's different. The vehicle image this thread is about is the one in the IPC, not the one for the backup camera that appears in the radio display or mirror (depending on how the vehicle was equipped).

Yeah, I figured that out when I was driving the car to lunch today.
My 18 show doors open/closed.
A door open message is also shown on top of the top down with an option to OK.After you OK you can then see the top down image.

Both of mine had the AUX switch display, but I inadvertently changed it to the vehicle and never noticed if the actual vehicle showed doors open as the door open warning or some other warning was always displayed over the top of it. I don't think I ever noticed the lights on or off or anything else change with the image - just a static image of the vehicle. If it showed tire pressure or other info, I may have opted to keep it around.
