2019 Explorer Sport
So, the last 4 vehicles I have owned were black. Two had the metallic flake in them like the 2014 Sport I have; two did not. All were Fords. When I was younger, I was really into taking a day and buffing the paint, etc. Now? I might do it once a year, maybe. I do take my car through a soft cloth car wash - it's my only option. I don't have time to hand wash anymore with kids. I normally wash it, take it home and use a spray wax or F11 on it. Most look at my current 2014 with 120,000 miles and say it looks new. Those products do a nice job, I admit. But, if you look close, the front end is chipped up and no soft cloth is ever soft enough - every car in front of me at the car wash is going to have crap on it that goes onto my paint. I get it. I get my current one washed once a week - more in the winter. I put the spray wax/F11 on it about every two weeks.

I am considering the Ruby Red, the Platinum white or the black 2019 Sport. My wife has a 2016 Edge Sport in Ruby Red, so I'm not sure I want two Ruby Red's in the garage. I'm not a hug fan of white, but I have some thoughts that may make it better - for me.

If I get the RR, I will have the stock rims dipped/powder coated black (shiny). I don't like the upgraded, stock, OEM black rims. I like the ones that come on the Sport; just wish they were all black. I would do the same with the white vehicle. I would NOT do that with the black vehicle as it's too much black for me.

I do plan to tint the side windows to match the rest. I will also install non-OEM black nerf bars/running boards. That would dress up the RR and white, for sure.

I suspect the white is the best option for me as it's not going to show the scratches as much. But, I admit I really like the black....when it's clean.

I do have two kids - 10 and 12 - and they have as much respect for the inside of a car as you might suspect - none. HAHA. So, there is that, too.

I will drive this car for 150,000 miles, or about 6 years. So, consider that, too.

Look forward to thoughts from you all - thank you!

Magnetic!! Put a clear bra/film on.

Colour is always a personal choice. I would never choose black since it soaks up the heat and hardly ever stays clean looking. I prefer lighter colours. White will stay cooler and stays clean looking much longer. White vehicles are also the least to be involved in accidents, followed by Silver. Black is the most dangerous colour followed by grey. Although I like the Burgundy, I would go with Silver (no extra charge) or the White Platinum.

X2 on the Magnetic.

Thanks, all. I'm not a fan of the Magentic. Looks like a cross between white and black to me. No offense; just a preference. I ultimately decided on another black one. I guess the saying is true - once you go black, you never go back! ;) I just couldn't wrap my mind around another ruby red. White just doesn't do it for me. So, I guess I will need to invest in more swirl remover and set aside a day twice a year and polish it up! :)

Now, it's time to find running boards / nerf bars and some mudflaps.

I will say this, and I judge cars on a national level, white hides a multitude of sins......

As far as I'm concerned, black is the only color for a Sport. Blends well the blacked out trim standard on Sports.

I say the Red, then pearl white.

The Red is dark enough that it gives an upscale look.

1. Blue 2 Magnetic 3. Silver +2,3,4 and whatever the number is on ClearBra I am considering a Clear Bra or wrap for the A, B and rear liftgate pillars.

Black... only because I like using my "flex polisher" every month.

One member painted the black plastic trim white to match the rest of the explorer and it looked great. I wish Ford would color match all the plastic trim to body color.

Buy whatever color floats your boat and makes you happy or is cheapest or whatever will have the highest resale value.

I hear what you're saying but a $55k msrp vehicle is hardly mainstream. Just because they don't have the lincoln badge set up like Nissan/Infinity, toyota/lexus, or honda/acura doesn't mean the Ford badge can't be luxury. The difference between an Infinity QX and a Nissan Pathfinder, outside of styling queues, is a bit of wood, some prettier knobs, and an upgraded sound systems.

Interesting last few posts but they have nothing to do with the thread subject.

To each their own, but if you truly believe what you posted, then it seems like you may have quite a bit of work ahead of you as the same could be said about quite a few postings on this forum.

Cheers!

If I had it to do over, I would get the silver or ruby red. IMHO, the silver allows for more customizing with black and other colors. The RR looks good though too. The white ones remind me of Range Rovers - not sure why.

Mine is black and I find it to be a bit too close to an unmarked police vehicle. I had a lowlife do the 'finger pistol' at me one day. (sigh)

Ruby Red is a great color too. I wish they would have offered the Magma Red.

A red would be nice. A brighter blue would have been good too.

I wholeheartedly agree with Ruby Red. I managed to luck into a used one and it looks pretty great. There are lots of other Explorers around town, but only one other red one.

Pic is from the dealers lot when I went to pick it up.

I had both an all black (2015 Sport Black Edition) and now a 2018 Sport Burgandy Velvet. MUCH prefer the Burgandy and get compliments on it regularly. With the black, it was just another all-black SUV.
