Woke up to a nice little present on the driveway. Can’t say I’m really surprised; oil has been condensing on the bottom of the frame rail crossbar for awhile, and I guess finally got to the point of dripping. Anyways, I’m 90% sure it’s the rear main seal. Can you guys confirm? (I know the lighting is really bad, I’ll take better pics later)

A quick google search told me the replacement cost would be about $300-500, which seems really low to me. I thought you had to pull the engine to get to the seal. I’ll call my mechanic and see what he thinks. (I try to do my own wrenching but I’m not about to pull the engine) If that is what it costs I’ll definitely get it fixed, but if it turns out to be a costly repair, what are some tips for living with it?

I change oil every 3k miles with Mobil 1 high mileage full synthetic and 820s filter. I never measure the oil after I drain it but I check the dipstick and it’s always fine.
