Ripped track bar off the frame

So I posted my build a while back. I built a 98 Explorer. See pictures below. Was moving out of state sold I sold my rig for 6500. Came back on vacation bought rig back for 500. The rig had no power with major issues on blowing maxis. But the thing that chaps my butt is he ripped a hole in the front frame, the track bar is still attached. But it looks Like opening a can with a pop top. I drove that thing every where and wheeled all the local and far hard trails of commiefornia and Nevada. This guy had it 6 months. Rant over..

So this is more of a vote on what to do.

A- Remove axle, motor and anything in the way to clean it up and box it in?
B- leave everything in place and box the bottom and outside frame?
C- Scratch the build and move on and swap everything on to a new rig?

Are those your “welds”.. yikes.

Cause I see one weld that tore apart in the HAZ not the weld itself, then a see a lot of boogered on **** I wouldn’t call a weld by any means.

Hard to tell if it’s fixable without disassembly just from looking at the pictures.

No the the weld on the track bar bracket deep under all that boogered **** is my welds. This is how I found it. Scary part is I think he was driving around with it like this.

Man, those welds were horrific.

I’d think you could plate it in with some C channel, or heavy angle. I repaired the rear section of my plow Mounty by using an angle on the inside and and on outside .The inner angle needed some considerable grinding, but I made it fit the profile of the original rail pretty well. I drilled holes through both angles and stitch welded them to the frame, and each other. I also through a few grade 8s through for extra measure. After the repair it became my new jacking point because it was extra beefy.

If you’ve still got done solid metal in the area, I’d probably repair the current truck.

He probably had the thing in the air for a bit. If the metal is ok around the rip, plate it. I'd see if a piece of metal could be put on the inside, weld it at the opening then weld a piece on the outside, drill tap and bolt the 2 pieces together.

I would cut everything off that side but the steering box mount, then plate the bottom and outside of the frame, including at the shock mounts. When I did my SAS, I plated the entire outside of the frames with 3/16 plate, and the bottom of the frame at the track bar mount.
This picture is the wrong side, but you can see the plating.



Edit: The guy you sold it to beat the holy heck out of it, and not in a good way.

I would repair it like everyone has said. I like how she looks minus all the Booger crap that the other guy did.
