Hello everyone,

IMG-20220520-WA0001.jpg

Unfortunately, I am a dumb dumb and hit my house with my 2017 Ford Explorer, Base Model. The house is fine, but the door skin is totaled according to the bodyshop. I understand that replacing the door skin is a massive pain and likely beyond my abilities. The shop put the repairs at $3500 for these twos. However, I am wondering if it could simply change the passenger door, given that there are complete doors on eBay that match the model, color and year of the car.

Any advice would be greatly appreciately.

I would suggest contacting a painless dent repair (PDR) guy to see if they might be able to fix it at a fraction of the cost. From the picture, it doesn't appear to be creased nor the paint being cracked. Doesn't cost anything for an estimate...

You will also find that even if the paint is the same color that the odds of it matching the rest of your Explorer are not very good.

You would quite likely need to have the new door painted and blended into the color of the rest of your car.

Welcome to the Forum "dumb dumb" ;)
I think jade97 has a good point. Have the damage assessed by one of those shops before committing to a body shop or replacing the door.

replacing door is an option, but make sure its got all the options you do. however easiest is PDR. usually its quite fast and painless, and best of all, still keeps it all original ;) and if you think thats dumb, should see me sometimes🤣

Thanks Jade97, JAPeterson, peterk9 and Fix4Dirt! I am going to head to a shop that does paintless dent repair. I'll let everyone know the results.
