Ready to renew my insurance policy with Progressive. Progressive has discount options for your vehicle. One discount is VIN etching. There is an etched number along with an 800-phone number on each of my windows. It does not match the vehicles VIN. Can anyone tell me what those etched numbers are. Thanks.
Happy Thanksgiving y'all.

Look to the left of the etched number that you are talking about and you will see it will be your VIN is also etched into the glass

I believe that the VIN is also marked on other body components.

After further digging I believe I have solved part of this question. Google search of the 800 number came up with a 3rd party vehicle extended coverage company. "Safe-Guard Products International" Called them and they had no record of my XLT. Went through a nightmare automated phone system. BBB rating for this company is in the gutters.

But the rest of the question is how did these very professional looking etchings get on my vehicle? At delivery my dealership said nothing about them. But that is your typical dealership. I'm also thinking, somebody had to pay for this. May call my dealership this week.

Your VIN is etched on every window on the vehicle … So what is the problem?

Go back to your dealership and look at the other explorers they will all have that same 800 number and to the left of that 800 number will be the VIN of each vehicle… you’re getting all worked up over nothing.
laissez les bon temps rouler

Ricky G. Love your response. I should stop being so "tete dure" and become a paying member. Then I could post pics. No VIN next to the #'s.
Geaux Tigers!

I don’t think you’re being hard headed… Can you take a pic of the numbers you’re talking about

OK, I must stop torturing myself. I have pics of the etched numbers. I became an Elite member this morning. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to upload pics. Is it the size of the pic or location of pic on my PC or what? Please keep in mind I am a carpenter by trade and all thumbs on a PC. Thank you.

Try to copy the picture on your PC and paste it into the message here. I do that on most web forums and it works well for me.

My 2020 Limited has that 800 number on all the glass like yours, I went out and looked at my 2012 Nissan Rogue and it also has the 800 number on all the glass. As far as your VIN being etched on every window that is an option some dealerships do it as soon as they get the vehicles and up charge you $150 for that. Some dealerships do not do it. My vehicle has the VIN numbers etched from the dealership,

This is how you upload a picture ..
click on the below attach files.

Thank you for supporting the site with your Elite Explorer membership. You should be good for 2 years now.
I haven't attempted to load any pictures from my phone, just my computer. I usually resize them to around the 800x400 pixels range. If it is saved to your PC you should be able to resize it. Then just save it and use the "Attach files" button at the lower right of your post and choose the photo and it should attach itself to the post.

The etched glass is kind of a scam for the dealerships to make more money on the sale. It's like floor mats and door guards. They add a bunch of stuff, then try to make you pay for it. I always refuse to pay for any of that crap, it's not like they replace the windows, it's still there. In all the years I worked in investigations, I never looked at window glass because it's so easily changed.

With the insurance discount, it might be as easy as checking a box on your yearly renewal. I think nearly every car in America must have etched window glass.

Does seem like my dealership is the best explanation. Just don't feel like talking to those guys. I am surprised they did not try to sell me something. I am waiting for Progressive to get back to me on this one.
Thanks all you guys for the help with the pics. Hope you can see them.

That is not a vehicle VIN that is etched into the glass.
