2002 Explorer alarm issue /door ajar

Yup! I traded it in for a Mini Cooper S! I think I tracked the bad sensor down to the back glass on the back door. If I slammed it shut it wouldn't behave so badly. The truck had 201000 on it and my wife wanted a new car so we got her the Cooper. How can you say no to a 6-speed supercharged roller skate!

Sadly I don't own any more Ford's but that won't stop me from lurking on the board!

I recently had the door ajar alarm in 2002 Explorer. In addition we experienced a couple of false alarms in the middle of the night. Ford dealer diagnosed driver's door ajar switch faulty. $282 cost, including $80 for diagnosis. Seems fine now

Picking up an old thread here and hoping the brain trust can shed some light on a similar related issue. I have recently acquired a 2002 Limited V8 AWD and I have a few issues I (now) believe are related.

- The drivers door lock switch will only cycle the locks with ignition on (it's dead with ign off or accessory position)
- The chimes start as soon as you insert the key into the ignition with all doors, liftagte & glass closed
- With ignition on, all doors, liftgate & glass display "door ajar" in the msg center when open & not when closed as you'd expect
- The dome light & approach lights stay on after locking the vehicle & only go off when the BCM (GEM ?) goes to sleep (ie way beyond the courtesy period)
- After locking the vehcile the red theft light flashes & there have been no (false) alarm activations
- When entering the vehicle, with all doors closed the dome light stays on until the ignition is turned on

My conclusion is that the BCM (GEM ?) thinks "something" is open when ign off, but recognizes nothing is open with ign on. Obviously the message center only displays with ignition on, so that's a bit of a catch 22 there. I'm also thinking it's highly likley this is tied to the ign on/off behavior of the drivers door lock switch. Ergo some kind of wiring issue, possibly a ground inside the drivers door ? The vehicle had 32K miles as bought & has been garaged it's whole life, so everything looks like new, hence I was not expecting wiring issues so soon :(
Any thoughts & input gratefully received, thanks :)

Well, I solved & fixed my own problem. It was a broken signal return ground wire within the drivers side body > door rubber trunking.
Also this YouTube How-To vieo was really helpful
