I have a '03 XLT Sport 4x4. I like the truck well enough, but would like a bit more clearance. I have searched the web, but haven't found any mention of lift kits for the new model Explorers.

Has anyone heard of a lift kit for the 2003 and 2002 Explorers?

Not gunna happen for a long time. I think you should begin to like the hieght of your stock explorer.

I figured as much when I saw nothing on the web.

Is there something about the 2003 (4-door) suspension that makes the creation of a kit difficult? It seems like the IRS would be an attractive target for the kit builders.

IRS = No not really... I think you should cook up a way to do a 2" body lift. Yoou could rpolly fit like 285x75's on there. I wish I had the money top buy one, soemthing about being like one of 3 people in the country with a lifted 3rd gen is very appealing to me. Go out on a limb and be a pioneer... you could get all the blocks and bolts for around $45... then you;d have to fab up bumper brackets and radioatro drops and a ground strap - but itd be bad ass.

It can be done with lots of $$$.

That third gen up there is all BL, so that should not cost all that much to do.

Yea thats a 3rd gen that Rick posted her a while back. Dont know what thread though... Sorry

I think it was from the desert race where they ran the FST trucks.

It was, If you look in the upper right hand corner of the gass tank shield, you can see the lift block. I think that one was a 3" body. A guy here has a BRAND NEW limited with 265x75 BFG's, but I'm pretty sure it's stock. Looks REALLY sharp tho. The reason I sad the 2", is b/c you wopuldnt need to mess so much with linkage, the steering shaft, and e-brake cables like you would with a 3". Actually, the blocks and all could be bought for $45, the ground strap exteneder for probabaly $5, and you could probabaly have a machine shop do the brackets and radiator lowering for peices for around $100. So it looks like you could expect to pay $150 - $200 for a lift for an explorer that no one has lifted. If I could, I would.

*Assuming that you do the install yourself

Yeah soundguy, that's the other one.... Get it together and do it! I know that you could find so much help/support on this board. And depending on wherte you live, probabaly a couple of helping hands.

I just returned from the SEMA Show. A company called KW Suspensions is going to offer a suspension package for lowering and lifting the gen 3 Explorer. This will be an adjustable coilover shock/spring combo that should be good for a 2" lift. We will carry the package at Explorer Express when it is released some time after the first of the year. I will post more info once it is available.
