We are excited to announce a complete shock and spring package with adjustable ride height capabilities for the 02-04 X's with independent rear suspension. We will carry this set up by KW Suspension when it is released after the first of the year. This is a tuned coil over suspension system that features factory bushings, teflon seals, high tensile racing springs, aluminum collars and polished Inox stainless steel construction. The shock dampning is preset for optimal handling and ride quality. This set up allows you to adust your lift from 1" to 2.50"! This is the proper way to lift an Explorer with independant rear suspension. This company has a lot of experience with independent suspensions in European and Japanese rally cars. They also offer a lowering kit that will give a 1" - 2.75" drop. This is the best way to lower or lift an Explorer or Mountaineer with independant suspension.

High tech suspension components that get good results do not come cheap. The lift kit & lowering kit will have a list price of $1395.

Our introductory price will be $1299 here at Explorer Express. We will install it on our new 2004 Supercharged X in January. We will have more pics and feedback at that time. You can also expect it to be featured in Truckin SUV Magazine!

Hmmmm

I've been looking to really beefup the fron suspension on my 2000 Rangers wimpy 4x4 IFS. These coil overs look like they would really stiffen it up and help the load of my offroad bumper and winch.

I have a superlift 4 in lift kit, and I'm really interested in finding a set for the front in the first couple months of the new year. Think you could help me out?

Also, if using a high enough rated coil-over, I wonder if you could use the Superlift, these coilovers, and DITCH THE TORSION BARS.

These are for explorers with independant rear suspesion.

well, duh. But, based on the threaded top and posted bottom, I'd like to get a look at the rest of the dimensions to see if they can be "adapted".

not following directions can lead to innovation.

(or hellacious breakage :) )

When we get this coil over shock set up in our hands we will take measurement and see if there are any possibilities for custom applications in other vehicles.

Nice John

Oh man that would be nice, I hate the ride of these torsion bars and a superlift is too expensive and impractical

Thank God!!! now to sweet talk the wife. John, will that supercharged X be lifted or lowered? There are a lot of lowered +'02's on this board and on the streets, so I'd really like to see what a lifted one would look like, with offroad tires/wheels. Also, any idea what the kit would do to an extended warranty?

Well the new 04 Silver X will get the lowered version of the kit. But I do have a local customer that wants to lift a nice black 02, so I should have pictures at some point. My guess is that it would look real good! As far as the warranty goes, I really do not see a problem. If a problem does come up, the dealer has to prove that it was caused by the new suspension. The new suspension should not cause any problems. As far as the wife goes you have two options. You can ask for permission or you can ask for forgiveness. I always end up asking for forgiveness!

Something to look forward to...

This Explorer has the lift and larger then stock tires. I don't recall the exact size. The photos are from the SEMA show.

Man, that is Sweet!! Looks really nice. Probably not as off-road-worthy as the older gen's but it'd be different from the rest.

Also, thanks for the wife-tip, John. Remember to tell it to me again when I'm knocking on your door looking for a couch to sleep on! seriously, I'm going to start saving up now, maybe sell my street 20's.

Thanks for the pics Rick!

Is this the only option for lifting 02 - 04 Explorers? I have an 03 XLT that I have been looking to lift since purchase. If I dont get rid of the stock 235's soon I may go insane.

I found an item on e-bay (item # 2460417367) described as 2.5" lift coil springs for 02-04 Explorers. Description states they are custom made by a major coil spring manufacturer and work with factory struts. Bidding starts at $380.00.

Also, I'm new to this site and off-roading in general. I need a key to follow some of the abbreviations on this site. Can anyone help? (example: TT?)

Thanks.

TT stands for "torsion twist" which refers to the torsion bar adjust that can be used to lift or drop the front end of a Gen 2 (95-01) Explorer.

Since you have a Gen 3 with coil spring suspension this does not apply. The KW set up has a two stage adjustable coil spring with a shock that is designed for a lift. The results would be much better then replacing the spring alone. The problem I have is the ride travel. I do not understand how a longer coil spring would work that good on a stock shock. The KW conversion does not come cheap, but it is the right way to do it.

Thanks John.

If I go with this KW product, what size tire would I be able to accomodate without trimming any of the body? Also, do you have a website or contact for purchase and review of the KW product?

John:

I just checked out your website. Five Star *****. The Gen-3 icon that categorizes all available upgrades is excellent. My wife is going to hate you. My tax return cant get here fast enough.

We will have the details on the KW Suspension on our web site soon.

Just check the suspension page in the GEN 3 section. We will be releasing both lifting and lowering kits in early march.

Don't worry about the wife. It's ok to vent her disapproval to me. As long as your truck gets the mods you want. She will learn to love me, they all do sooner or later!
