Need opinions/have questions on 12W7 and JL 500.1

Since you're having second thoughts about the 500/1, here's my two cents.

I have a 12w7 in a JL ported box, powered by the 500/1, and it is PLENTY loud. I knocked my rearview mirror off the first night I had the system out. Sure, the 1000/1 is recommended by JL, and I would love to have it, but like you, the 1000/1 will not fit in my Explorer.

However, for my needs, as both an audiophile and a showoff, the 500/1 is plenty.

Check out my site for pictures of the setup.

sorry, i guess i should have updated this thread. I did decide to just go with the 500/1 and i'm glad i did. it pushes my sub very well. i can't imagine what it would sound like if i had the 1000/1 but i would think that it would be too much since it already POUNDS the way it is. i'll get some pics up as soon as i can.

jdapplin, your truck looks good. nice job on the audio system.

honestly doubling the power wouldn't make it that much louder-

Just thought I would say I have 3 jlw0's
that i would put against the w7's.
I personally find the w7's to be power pigs.

There is a guy in the town here thats got the same year and model X as me with 4 jlw7's and I have my 3 w0's
and he cant keep up.

Feel free to check out my pics and see my box.
There are 2 jlw0's on the sides at 4ohms and the one in the center is a jlw0 at 8 ohms. The box is 100% seald and not devided. There running parallel 4-8-4.

here are some pics of the new 12W7 in the AWESOME subzone box. I don't know if any of the pics show it good enough or not, but i also swapped out the 300/2 for a 500/1. Check it out and let me know what you think...

I don't know what you buddy has goin on with his setup but 4 12w7's should waste 3 12w0's anyday. Not saying your a liar, but something just ain't right.
I do know what you mean about the w7's being power pigs, as I thought the same way until I hooked mine up with just the 500/1 running it. It hits so hard i have to keep my sub control on my head unit all the way down and set my bass on my head unit to -5(it goes from -7 to +7). To compensate for my mids i played with the xovers and adjusted the amp so i still have good quality sound coming out of my mids and highs even though i turned my bass down so low.
Also, keep in mind im not trying to start any wars over what subs are better or anything, i'm just saying that for 1 12inch sub i have the equvilent to about 3 12W3's that i had before if that makes any sense what so ever. Plus, i disconnect one speaker wire and can remove the whole damn thing to hall stuff.

ok here is my own personal experence....
i went to a SPL contest about 6 months ago and i was the expected winner with my 4 12W3v2's JL subs and a MTX 8100 mono block amp untill a guy pulled up with 4 12W7 with a 1000/1 amp. at the end of the contest the guy with the W7's hit 151.9 and i hit 152.4. so in my opinion the W7's aren't that great of a sub... also your box is a big factor in how loud u are... later

4 12W7s with one 1000/1 amp is nowhere near enough power for those subs.

i don't care if you have 30 jl w0 subs and a 100 ferret cap they can't compete with a single w7 and thats coming from someone who dislikes the w7 in general. your a fool and have no credibility.

u are a stupid person for saying this... W7's are a paper weight... i know this becasue i am an JL dealer and i install at a high end retail shop everyday... i can make a single 12 JLW3V2 hit harder than a 12W7 anyday of the week...

For 4 W7s to sound right you would need a 1000/1 for each one of them.
