Hi guys. I'm going to be getting an amp for my Ex soon, and I just wanted to come on here with a few questions. (BTW, I have no idea if this is relevant information or not: The Ex came from the factory with the Premium Sound package, got upgraded to an Aiwa HU and Boston Acoustics speakers.)

First, my Ex has two factory amps in it , one for the speakers and one for the sub. The way my speakers are now, they're actually not wired through their amp, so I think I'm going to leave that one for now and just replace the amp that goes to the sub so I can upgrade that. Does that sound like a good plan?

Second, how much power should I need from it? I've been looking at a Sony Xplod 12" that one of my friends would sell me. I don't know enough at this point to know if I'd buy it, but how much power should I get for an application like that?

Third, how much should I be expecting to pay for a good amp? I'm not looking for anything show quality, just something to get good sounding music.

Fourth, what type of amps do you guys all have? What do you like/not like? How powerful? How much did it cost? Any other important questions I'm forgetting?

Sorry about the long post with all the questions. Thanks in advance for your help!

it's best to bypass the dtock amp and run the speakers off an aftermarket amp or even the aftermarket headunit.
sony subs dont hit very hard, and their sound quality is sub par. there are lot better inexpensive subs out there.

To tell you the truth, I don't actually know what the speakers are running off of. My friend did the install, and he didn't find out about the amp for the speakers until after wiring them all in, so he didn't bother. I guess they're hooked up to whatever they should be hooked up to bypassing the stock amp. So are you saying the amp for the speakers would be a better idea for replacement before the amp for the sub?

And I just threw that out about the Sony amp because my friends selling one. I haven't really looked enough to know for sure yet. I want to try and figure out the amp first, unless the amp and sub decision should be made together.
