Anyone in TX

Gilmer is way up in NE TX, NE of Dallas by OK, so from you , its a nice lil drive

I noticed a dif. in power once i went to 31s, i expect to see a lot more losss once i go 33s but i'm not to worried about it for the road, cause thats not what i'm using my truck for, it is my daily driver but i prefer to off road it then anything else.

not that far NE.. mmore east. and not close to OK at all. good 3 hour drive from dallas if u go speed limit.

osker75 because i might want to stop by and help;

well ya see osker, i hadn't really planned on doing the lift locally if at all.

the only good tools that i have access to are in NE tx.

it might be easier for me to stick to gettin 31's.

but in 4 weeks? who knows?! :fire:

JPA,

do you have an idea of how much the 33 inch tires will wear out the suspension?

i have no idea if it will at all. i remember reading somewhere that the 8.8 with the stock axles (31 spline - i think ) could handle up to 33's without being torn up.

surely there is a noticeable difference between a 33 inch AT versus an MT tire.

any word on gilmer yet? any plans? if i have a chance of going i will have to plan far ahead in advance.

i haven't seen much on here bout hurting the suspension, except the front cause of IFS and having to big of a tire/rim combo can break it, i believe, i'm not a pro on this stuff, just know lots of others have done it, so it should hold cause i won't be wheeling as hard core as some of the others, but i will push it

correction on where gilmer is, <---don't know never been there, thought thats where i had looked it up sometime ago, will try and go sometime near future, purhaps on the way back to school in mid August, could get a lil group up there, for sure have all i need except lockers for that place.

WHAAAAAAAAA?!?!?!

It takes me 3 hours from Waco, what route are you taking to get there???

And that is towing a 3000lbs trailer with my portly 4000lbs tank on the back, and 6" taller than it was in the picture below, talk about wind drag, and the rig swaying from side to side.

I would say its closer to 2 hours. And that is me leaving from PLano Texas.

It takes me about an hour and ten minutes to get there from Texarkana if im using pop's diesel. It took almost 2 hours last time we went because i had to use the X. :D I hope i never have to do that again.

And that badass storm you had to forge through head on!

This is true. Nothing like seeing an F 0.5 tornado form in a parts store parking lot right next to you while pulling overloaded. :D

I am a little north of houston.

Sometimes I wander up towards the DFW area.

How far out of houston? I'm just into Montgomery county on I-45/spring-woodlands area. Would love to meet up with more explorer people.

Although I'm pretty sure I'm not too comfortable taking my truck 4 hours away, breaking something on a trail, then trying to get it home. I only wish I had a car hauler, tow rig, tons of tools and spare parts...etc.. Certainly don't want to be a liabilty because of not being prepared.

so SVO, how bout that help with the 3" BL???? sure could use the experienced hands, cause it is something i'll be driving on the highway, lol,

my dad the ex greese monkey back in the day, refuses to lend a hand on this one. said he will not do anywork or pay for any part of it, which is fine with me, just as long as he doesn't care it still gets done.

looking at sometime, next weekend, around the 25th or so, have to get paid and then have them order it and everything, let me know, thanx either way.

hey fordlover,
im not too far from ya.

we should get a few of us out on a run of somekind...is there anything for us at spring creek?

i havent been. i dont know if there are any actual trails.
i do know that there is mud, which i am ill-equipped for. =(

Post some more info about your truck, a picture even.

mine still blends in with the thousands of others in the area. hopefully not for long.

i have yet to see a modified explorer driving around, with the exception of johnstone's blactrac on its trailer north on I45.
def a nice truck he gotses.

I love to get out to spring creek. I don't have any picures of my truck yet online, but it's pretty basic. So far I've only put 31 inch tires on it, and installed a new rear end with 3.73's and a limited slip. Hope to have the 5.5 inch superlift on soon, but still waiting on a few parts for it.
I also have a ton of other stuff that's just waiting to be installed.

Spring creek has a good mix of sand, mud, trails, open areas. plenty of places to explore.
Any time you wanna meet up, let me know. There's a decent chance I'll be out at spring creek this weekend, slingin a little mud.
E-mail me at FastTaurusSHO@aol.com or PM me on this board.
I definitely want to attend an explorer event of some kind.

hey that sounds awesome...they are having the spring truck nats in late july
www.springcreekmudfreaks.org

i just got my 31's, but i am in need of suspension work.

i had the ex checked out at a few places. they all want $500 plus for 2 ball joints and a lifetime alignment.

i am looking into replacing the ball joints myself...i dont really feel like paying more than $500 for just labor.

i would still like to get out to the creek.

Yep, I intend on being out there in july for the competition. Looks like it should be fun.
I think all the houston people should try and get out there, I bet it will be a blast.

Managed to go wheelin a bit this past weekend (if you call dropping a wheel in a ditch and taking a pic 'wheelin') and here she is, in all her bone stock glory.

we should def rally some troops for the event.

i didnt see any ex's in the pics from '03.

it would be great to have a group of 20 explorers show up. :exp: :yelexp: :exporange

hey ford, edit that last pic link...then it might show up

SVO, just curious if your still interested in lending a hand for the BL, i'm ordering it the 6th, suppose to take 3 days to arrive, so looks like the 10th or 11th it will be going on, still have to run 31s for a couple weeks, until i buy my 33s, just want to get it on there before hand, so once i have the cash can get the new tires asap. let me know thanks, take care

if anyone else is interested in watching or helping, we will be doing this on the air force base, 4pt hydraulic jacks(the best) hopefully get to do a little wheeling after that.
