What oil to use
What I was getting at was our motors were drawn up in the 60s, mod motors are decades newer and made for the new oil as far as clearances go.- SWIGIN

What oil to use
In the link you posted the first sentence tells me you read to much into things. Our 5.0 motors are not flat tappet motors so that article means nothing. I do have high performance flat tappet motors and do not add any additives to my oil and I just use good old dino oil. After 50,000 miles I...- SWIGIN

Early 97 5.0 engine question
A buddy of mine was going to install a 302 in his 83 F150 300 6cyl back in the 90s. He never did it but from what I remember if you have all the pieces from both motors I think you have what you need to do it. I know this don't help much but since he never went through with it I can't say for...- SWIGIN

need some tranny advice
Wouldn't we all like a easier and cheaper option but with well over 200k you should feel blessed it lasted as long as it did and now do it a favor and rebuild it. The 4R70W is a great tranny but they all ware out. Your clutch plates will be very hardened and thin if there is any material left...- SWIGIN

Taking the 4406 plunge.
I often wondered about using an earlier Mustang tranny mount since they were lower and should bolt up to our trannys. http://www.prothanesuspensionparts.com/61605 I like this one. http://www.prothanesuspensionparts.com/4.1136 They say they fit a ton of cars but one is 65-73 Mustang...- SWIGIN

Taking the 4406 plunge.
Correct, it is too long like I said. See my first post for one that fits with the addition of a yoke. Or you can shorten the F150 DS but you only get a single ujoint at each end. I will only run a double cardan so the F150 DS was not for me.- SWIGIN

That looks right to me. I used a first gen EX front drive shaft with the double cardan and it just bolted on, no funky u joint. EDIT...... It bolted on once I got the #627 (I think that's the number) yoke.- SWIGIN

5.0 CAM Help
I have the Comp XE276HR in my Stang and it is a very wild cam. Very lopy idle that sounds beautiful but I would not go near that big in my EX. My Mustang needed a high stall converter ( 9.5'' 3000 stall) to work correctly with that cam. Comp makes an Extreme 4x4 cam series for some engines...- SWIGIN

No, I never use anything but polish or car wax on polished aluminum. You would be surprised at how long a finish will last when you get it perfectly smooth and don't drive it in the winter. I just took this picture 10 minuets ago, not bad for 7 years. I just installed new fuel injectors...- SWIGIN

I was working on my 94 Mustang today and I thought I'd show you guys it's polished Explorer intake. I did this back in 2009 I think and I swore I'd never do another but after looking at these old pictures my EX would look good with one. I made a Plexiglas cover and made vinyl decals...- SWIGIN

Fuel mileage going from stock wheels/tires to larger tires
If you haven't done a 4406 yet you might want to. I tested my 98 before and after and I went from 15.5 mpg to 17.2 average. That's 80% back roads/town driving and 20% highway.- SWIGIN

Aint no thang. Just to be clear, I don't think your low MPG is too be blamed all on the rings. It is a perfect storm combo you have going there IMO.- SWIGIN

Why do t you think Ford went to low tension? They have to do whatever they can to meet the government regulations. Your milage sounds right to me for an old school (normal ringed) 302.- SWIGIN

Fuel mileage going from stock wheels/tires to larger tires
Without reading your other thread, I see you didn't say if your new motor has low tension piston rings. From the factory ( and I don't know how many EX guys know this) Ford used low tension rings in the 5.0 H.O motors. If you used old school ''tight'' rings your motor will have much more...- SWIGIN

SO; do transfer cases just suddenly go bad?
My 98 had no front driveshaft when I bought it and park worked just fine. I have heard it repeated over and over again online that park wont keep the vehicle from drifting when parked. This was not case for me, I drove it like that for months and the parking pin would hold the vehicle...- SWIGIN

You didn't say what motor is has but when I buy a used vehicle it gets a motor and tranny fluid and filter change. The next step is a full tune up Spark plugs, wires, cap/rotor (if applicable), fuel filter, air filter, ect. EGIT.... Don't forget with those miles I also will give it a fuel pump...- SWIGIN

4406 Question
