Front Drive Shaft (4406) question
I'd like to know if the early Mustang poly mount would be closer to fitting an EX. Thread I had on the subject http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/index.php?threads/poly-tranny-mount-for-5-0.427816/#post-3423868 That early mount is much lower like the EX needs and should fit with less mods to...- SWIGIN

My 98 XLT 5.0 Finally Goes Under The Knife
I have a 4.6 front DS from a F150 and it I too long for me, don't know how you got it in there. Get a DC shaft like a first gen or early 2nd gen EX.- SWIGIN

My 98 XLT 5.0 Finally Goes Under The Knife
I don't like single front drive shafts for Fords, I'd start there. You know, that's the last thing I never got around to doing but I need to soon. My tranny needs servicing and while it\s open I'll do it but it's not my favorite thing to do so it waits. That price don't sound too bad and I did...- SWIGIN

My 98 XLT 5.0 Finally Goes Under The Knife
No, mines smooth as silk. If you read this thread you seen what drive shafts I used. Maybe that's the difference but I don't know what parts you used or what condition they are in. I opened my 4406 up and went through it before I installed it and rebuilt my front drive shaft (double cardon) to...- SWIGIN

Valve rattling under load in 99 explorer 5.0ltr.
I'd pull the upper intake and take off the valve covers and have a look. If it is the valves and not the lifters you might find a broken rocker or spring.- SWIGIN

Carbon fiber lsd
Do you have a new thinner side shim? The stock one that's under the clutch pack is normally too thick when you restack. I start with a .020'' side shim against the carrier then alternate fiber, steel, till you have 4 fibers instead of 3. Normally with the .020'' shim it will go together real...- SWIGIN

My 98 XLT 5.0 Finally Goes Under The Knife
Well it's fall so I installed my NAPA camber bolts and maxed them out since the stock tires leaned in. Then I installed those Rancho shocks made for a TT to the front. Then I tried the 31s to see if I had to do anything else and it turns out they fit fine as is. I do think someone before me...- SWIGIN

1999 whine / howl from drivetrain?
If it's a 5.0 it could be the T- case, or with other motors too I guess but the AWD is known for this. Best thing to do if that's it is do a 4406 swap.- SWIGIN

what do you guys think about these headlights?
Yeah, they wont pass in PA. I just installed some AM Autosport head lights in my and my daughters EX. They have a 10 year warranty and are inexpensive . https://www.am-autoparts.com/1997/Ford/Explorer/headlight-assemblies.html- SWIGIN

Always soak wet clutches, like bands and fiber disc like in an 8.8 or in the tranny.- SWIGIN

Ford used the 4406 up to and including the light duty F250 so I don't think a little EX is going to work one too hard. You might just have bad luck or your doing something wrong.- SWIGIN

They can, you can add less and be the same'ish or add more and go higher. Don't over think the simple leaf spring setup. I like to add 3 to 4 extra Bronco leaves to my 79 for a few reasons. One reason is height, then I don't need as much lift block. Another reason is ride, I like a more solid ride.- SWIGIN

I don't know if your talking to me or not but I think shackles are used far too much on this site too soon. In my mind if your rear springs are weak you want to add strength to them by adding an AAL, then maybe those coil over shocks if your into them, then shackles if you need more height. But...- SWIGIN

If you understood the swap you would like it. Main leaf is EX the rest are f150 if you want and they are stronger then EX. You add F150 leaves till you get the height/ride your after....simple.- SWIGIN

You will LOVE the 4406 if your used to a 78 Blazer. Your Blazer probally had a NP 203 or NP 205 T case in it. Both are geared much higher then the 4406 when comparing low. My 79 Bronco has the NP205 and my 5.0 EX with the 4406 is SO much lower in low then the old Bronco it's shocking. Do...- SWIGIN

From all the rears I have rebuilt and EX's I see in the junk yard most 5.0 EX's had 3.73 and some had 4.10. I have never come across one with 3.55s but I'm sure they exists.- SWIGIN

The difference between 3.73 and 4.10 gears is so minimal I wouldn't think twice about sticking with the 3.75s. Especially if this will be street driven. I know, apples to oranges but my 79 bronco still has the stock 3.50 gears with 35s and guys used to rag on me about lower gears but with a...- SWIGIN

How to: Make your 99-01 V8 run cooler
I haven't seen anyone say to use a 180 degree T-stat yet. In the Mustang world (especially the old 5.0) It was common and often the first mod you'd do to keep temps down and maybe free up some HP. I seen a chart once that showed bore wear compared to T-stat temp and the wear was minimal down to...- SWIGIN

My 98 gave me similar problems when I got it. Turns out the battery ground wire must be bad even though my ends look mint.
