94 Limited Axle Swap
The good part about using a Early Bronco D44 radius arms setup is that so many people here have already done it and it works. Nearly bolt on with the James Duff aftermarket SAS parts. I went with a high pinyon D44 out of a 76 F-150 and cut it down to early Bronco width. Used as many parts as...- BKennedy

Completed Project Kirby's 1991 Ranger Build Up
Good to get the sticker shock out of the way. I bought the most expensive parts first (radius arms, shocks and wheels) and all on the same day. Then, I figured I was committed.;) Your friend should lower his rear bumper slightly so it takes the hit instead of the shackles. I was under my...- BKennedy

Is a K&N worth the money?
Kurtz Kustoms makes good products. I just can't use them in California as they are not CARB legal. I have K&N's in all of my vehicles now. I use the drop in filters and have never had a problem with the MAF. You need to go light on the oil when you clean them. I have noticed a slight...- BKennedy

91-94 X Schematics / Diagrams
I got one several months ago and used it to help me re-wire a bunch of stuff. Really helped to pull out all the ABS stuff when I did the SAS.- BKennedy

I have not really driven it around to see if the gauge is working all the time. Its a intermittent issue. While I am out driving around, it will just drop to zero for a bit, then go right back up to its normal reading. I don't think that gauge does much. In reading my electrical manual, it...- BKennedy

Bkennedy's SAS and Rebuild Thread
I think I figured out why BC Broncos just used a "safety washer" instead of a misalignment bushing on their steering. Its to keep the rod ends from shifting over when you turn the wheel to the right. It makes a thump sound / feel through the wheel and I was concerned until I had my Dad turn...- BKennedy

Flasher Relay 1992 EXP
Do your back up lights work? If not, check fuse #5 in the under dash fuse panel. Did you replace the round turn signal flasher in the under dash fuse panel?- BKennedy

Popping noises from front, toe/camber problems
I could never keep my Explorer aligned with that much lift. One good off road trip and it would knock it out again. You are at the limits of the TTB suspension without modifying the beams.- BKennedy

My 91 ex registry
Glad you finally got that locker and gears installed. They worked great for me for many years. You don't need a ARB compressor, just need any good quality compressor and a regulator to keep the pressure to the ARB under 90 PSI. I have a Puma like this that I haven't gotten around to taking...- BKennedy

Bkennedy's SAS and Rebuild Thread
Had a good day. Went to the auto parts store where I purchased the new remanufactured steering gear box. Manager was in, looked up old box bought there in 2002 and asked why I purchased another when it was under a lifetime warranty. Because your employee could not find it in the system when I...- BKennedy

red fog light bulbs?
Red lights directed forward are not legal in any state, unless you are driving a authorized emergency vehicle. Big fat ticket. Other vehicles might mistake you for a police vehicle, which could get you in trouble.- BKennedy

Strange electrical issues help please
Is your Explorer a Limited? If so, it looks like interior fuse #6 powers your keyless entry module in acc/run. Power distribution fuse #6 powers the keyless module at all times. There should be a black ground wire on two out of the three plugs on the keyless entry module. Try jumping...- BKennedy

Strange electrical issues help please
I have no idea why the factory would hide a alarm key fob under the seat. Sounds like that is what it is to me. If the battery is 21 years old, I would install a new battery. Sometimes when they are going bad, the electrical system acts up due to inconsistent voltage / amps. I would replace...- BKennedy

Strange electrical issues help please
Roadrunner is right, I pulled my 1994 electrical service manual and they are not on a common ground. Maybe you shook loose a connection? On the firewall below the master cylinder, there is a large circular white electrical connection. with a large bundle of wires. Its for nearly everything...- BKennedy

Strange electrical issues help please
Easy way to check ground is to find the ground wire on one of the items giving you issues. Run a new wire off that ground wire to a convenient place to make a new ground to the body, like under the carpet, in a kick panel, etc. If your problem goes away, it was the ground. If it doesn't, it...- BKennedy

power steering Fluid change?

2nd generation off road
I think the 2nd gen's do well, but you have to remember to be careful with the front drivetrain. It is the weak link and can't stand a lot of articulation or tight turns under throttle. I have seen a bunch of them break under strain. Remember to go easy on the throttle and you should do okay...- BKennedy

Bkennedy's SAS and Rebuild Thread
Nope. I can get a nut on the other two bolts with longer bolts, but there is no room on the back of that one. I got longer grade 8 bolts and some thin lock nuts for the other two. The other two bolt holes' threads were messed up and when I ran a tap through them to clean them up, it was not...- BKennedy

Bkennedy's SAS and Rebuild Thread
The heli-coil idea did not work out. The bolt hole was ovaled-out already and after drilling, I could not get the tap to go in straight. It also has a slight leak at the column shaft that I did not notice before. I ordered a new (reman) gear box. Having the column out is giving me ideas...- BKennedy

Bkennedy's SAS and Rebuild Thread
I think the gear boxes are the same for a bunch of Ford trucks. I would replace the box, but I just don't want to spend the money when its not necessary. Box I have now doesn't have hardly any slop. The heli-coil kit was $22.39, versus a $150 for a quality reman box. If interested, the...- BKennedy

It's the back bolt and it comes out on a raised area that is for the threaded bolt hole. Don't know if there is room to put a nut on the end, but I am getting a few different bolt lengths and was going to heli-coil the threads as I have had great luck with that. Then, if there is room, get a...- BKennedy

I have been doing some thinking about the stripped bolt housing. I used the steering gear box bolts to center the 3/16" thick plate so when I welded it to the frame I could have as small of holes as possible. Then I tightened the bolts up after it was all welded. I did a bunch of welding...- BKennedy

It never ends with this dang Explorer. I got the trans all fixed up, and was running the engine, shifting gears, etc., to check the fluid level when I pulled on the steering wheel. Today was interesting. I pulled the Explorer out of the garage to give it a wash, then take it to the muffler shop and the beach so the dog could go for a run. Got the motor mounts changed out in about two hours today. Needed to remove the intake, fan shroud, and shock hoop cross brace to get the engine up high enough to get the mounts out / in.
