    Bkennedy's SAS and Rebuild Thread

Oh, yeah, I remember that, 2003. I had just gotten home from working in Valley Center patrolling the burned area, shutting off water mains and making sure no one was there. Took these pics; The fire funnel in the second pic was about 100 feet high Came home, and was asleep for...

Things are okay with us, only two fires nearby; one was put out fast, the other is 75% contained. Both with no structure loss. First one was about five miles away. I wasn't worried about that one as far as the house goes, but was concerned enough to stay home all day in case we needed to move...

I hope that when they catch one of those guys, its by a angry mob of evacuees who give them the beat-down of a life time before they turn them over to the authorities.

There is no way they are all some unfortunate accident or naturally caused. It had to be planned out in advance. I could see some crazy coincidence of maybe two fires at the same time, but nine?? All were in areas of heavy brush within close proximity of large numbers of houses. Most were...

Some A&*hole set fires all over the county today, so I stayed at home. The canyon where the horses are boarded is a preserve and is ripe for burning. I stayed close in case I needed to move them. Rewired the stereo and the 12 volt receptacles so they run off the secondary battery. Welded...

I was cleaning out my shed today. I have for FREE, the following; HP Dana 44 open carrier with 3:50 gears. All appear to be in working condition. Dana 44 F-150 long side axle shaft. Appears to be original equipment, and in decent condition. 1994 stock Explorer intake. Has a bunch of...

I got it out of the garage today, and adjusted the spring stops so they are an inch above the top of the dividers. I drove it around the block and through a few dips, but there is a fire burning nearby so I wanted to stay home today in case we need to move the horses. It drove fine and did not...

That is what FOA had listed as their "medium" rebound setup.

Got the Explorer all back on it's feet today. Need to adjust the spring stops up slightly, but that seems to be about it. Hopefully, I will get it out soon and find a bumpy road, and some rocks, to try it out. I looked up several shock manufacturing companies shim valving spec sheets. None...

    Tbars Project "X" begins

I cut out the cross brace and put in a piece of 3/16" wall 2x2 square tubing. Edit; Like this:

Keep an eye on the upper shock mounts. The mounts flex quite a bit and mine cracked across the entire mount.

Got the shocks rebuilt today. Out of time so I will hopefully get them charged tomorrow to see how they work. As I was cleaning them, I noticed the old oil looked like it has aluminum swimming in it. I saved some in a water bottle and am going to let it settle for several days to see if I can...

He still has them. He sent me a pic of a pair of what I am assuming are the best two and they look beat. Labels gone, all black with corrosion, and the end cap is missing on one.

I sent him an email. Got one of the shocks pulled apart this morning. Everywhere you look, you can find aluminum slivers and other debris. The seal kit arrived this morning also, but I don't have anymore time to get them together due to the amount of cleaning they need before re-assembly...

I had to limit the compression travel a little more (another 1/2") due to contact marks I found while changing out the wedgie bushings. On driver side, tie rod is slightly contacting the track bar frame mount. On passenger side, axle track bar mount is contacting frame. They are just little...

Mine have two heavy washers on the rebound side and one on the compression side. I will post a pic of the internals of the shocks when I get them all torn down. The machining does not appear to be nearly as clean as the Kings, Foxes or Ballistic.

I think I (we) are on the right track here. I am going to go with all .015's on compression and the mix Khris suggested for rebound and see what happens. This thread has a lot of real good information. Turbo, you have more weight up front, but also more leverage on the shocks with the...

    My body is crooked

My 94' does the same thing. I know of at least one 99' that has that issue. It was within Ford specifications when produced. Don't worry about it. I did not notice it until I did a solid axle swap and was trying to set the front axle's track bar length.

Okay, that was a pretty cool video. I do love the go fast trucks, but last time I was in one was late 70's. Trophy truck pre-running the Baja 500. Got a ride across the dry lake bed by Mikey's Sky Ranch at over 100 MPH. Fun stuff. If I bring you a new pair of "Western Safety" gloves...

Thanks Khris. I will add the .008's in the rebound stack and see what happens. Worst case scenario, its going to be better than it was. I also understand you head is geared towards racing, and mine is geared towards mostly crawling, with occasionally go fast down a dirt road stuff. I...

I know I am posting like a crazed meth head on a **** site, but I have another question: I have a gallon of F-O-A's oil on the way (it was not expensive), but on hand I have a 1/2 gallon of King shock oil. You think I could refill both shocks with the King oil? If so, I will cancel the F-O-A...

As it sits with the original shim valving, the thing was bouncing up and down like a pogo-stick. It would bottom out, then rebound up way too fast and start on its way down before I hit the next whoop. Not good. To help you help me decide on valving, I also am running heavier weight springs...

By packing you mean not rebounding in time for the next compression, right? F-O-A has five shims per stack, and has four sizes of shims, .008, .010, .015 and .020. I micro'd all the shims and it was set up like (largest to smallest, 1-5): Compression 1 - 5, all .008 Rebound 1 - .008...
