1992 explorer gets a solid axle and v8 5 speed
My Duff radius arms have held up very well over the last 12 years. I almost went with the Duff solid axle swap kit for Rangers and Explorers, but I wanted to push the axle 2" forward so 35-37's would clear the firewall.- BKennedy

I feel your pain. I need 14" of jack before it touches the axle. I also have a Hi-Lift jack that I don't like to use. I have to strap the suspension to get a tire off the ground, and I think it wants to kill me. Those things are evil and I only use it for recovery or to stabilize a rig.- BKennedy

OK, it's the jack body that is too long. Can't fix that. The 4 ton HF bottle Jack fits in the OEM jack storage location. The OEM jack won't get anywhere near tall enough to get a larger diameter tire off the ground. The HF jack has a nifty screw out extension in the shaft and a small round...- BKennedy

You take your self on some very cool adventures. I always get Discount Tire warranty when I buy tires from them. The last set of Explorer tires I bought off Tire Rack, and their warranty is free. Have never used their warranty so I can't say if it's as good as Discount Tire. I made an...- BKennedy

Plot twist. The extended warranty they got with the truck is through Sunroad Auto Group, the same company that owns the dealership. The warranty authorized the work, including everything in the TSB, and a few minor things like a loose wire in the hitch plug and bad tire monitors. This has me...- BKennedy

A good dealer would have also replaced the tires, since one was out of round. They noticed vibration during the test drive so the dealer put it on the alignment rack and said they fixed it. No way they didn't see the oil pan leak, since it's all the way around and the back side of the pan was...- BKennedy

I've noticed that integrity seems to have mostly gone the way of the Dodo in southern California. Daughter has been commuting with the Ranger and they have been driving it around town. She is reporting it feels like it's got a little more power and no issues. Still doesn't like hills. Daughter dropped off their F150 at the dealership to replace the leaking plastic oil pan under warranty, and picked up the Ranger. Daughter will drive it to work for 2-3 days. This will be the final test. When they get the F150 back, I'll flush and change the Ranger's engine oil, and add the...- BKennedy

I ordered 4 bottles of trans treatment and 2 bottles of engine flush. I'm going to flush the Ranger engine and change the oil in a few weeks. RA has Lubeguard products at less than half the price of Amazon. Four bottles is $11.99 for shipping, so still way cheaper than Amazon. Any reason this wouldn't work in my 700R4?- BKennedy

I bought 5 quarts, 5 quarts of 5w-20, and trans, engine and fuel filters, and it was $7-8 to ship. Does Lubeguard work for other than Ford transmissions? I'm thinking of dumping a bottle in the Ranger, my Silverado and the Allison in the RV.- BKennedy

Bkennedy's SAS and Rebuild Thread
The lower mount is a Bronco/F100/F150 bushing so the upper rod end mount does most of the work. The lower bushing helps control road and tire vibrations. The front suspension has 14" coil over shocks, 43" long radius arms, and the 35" tires can drop below the body line. Its a very flexy...- BKennedy

Last week I changed the oil and did my annual suspension inspection. The rod end at the top of the track bar is blown out, again. I did the trans pan drop and filter change today. Without a lift, that's a messy job. The book says it only takes three quarts of Mercon 5. I think figured out why the AC manifold I purchased wasn't working properly. Primarily, its their can tap. It's a combo pierce and self-sealing tap. It just doesn't work. It needs is a dedicated tap for each can type. All the other fittings in the kit appear to be very well made...- BKennedy

I'm over it. I tried. It's like automatic transmissions, I'll leave it to the shops. R134a in California has to be CARB approved, so it's twice what it cost in other states. 410 basically told me in a PM not to worry about the open port if there is good oil pressure and its running good. It's possible it's a drain and not a pump channel, which would mean it really doesn't matter because it will drain across the cam chains and into the pan. It runs very well and...- BKennedy

I noticed something that's been bugging me ever since I saw it while reviewing pictures. There is a small oil port on the front of the Fusion head. The Fusion timing cover blocks the port. Yearly testing for diesel RV's with a GVWR of over 14,000 pounds. Pretty much any diesel RV other than a van. It's ridiculous. R134a has to be CARB approved for sale in California, which doubles the price. They want us to use replacement synthetic refrigerant. I did some research this morning as to why the 2.3 Rangers have both electric and engine driven cooling fans. By research I mean reading a few threads on the Ranger Station.
