RV Update / Upgrade Thread
Anybody know what the grommet is called that is circled in red in the pic? It's something I never knew I had to have until I saw one. Need one for the electrical cable and water line doors. I've done a bunch of searches and can't find them. Someone on a RV site called them a "stirrup" but no...- BKennedy

Custom winch bumper !FINISHED!
I removed the skirts on my 1994 a long time ago. I ended up with 19 holes in the rockers on each side. I tried using plugs and they looked like crap. I ended up using 2" wide white heavy duty wet conditions grip tape. I ran a piece down both sides, covering the holes. It's still there...- BKennedy

That hood looks good. Largest opening you could do to show off the engine and retain the body lines, and still call it a hood.- BKennedy

Custom winch bumper !FINISHED!
I like low profile plate bumpers. Looks solidly mounted. Came out pretty good. The only question I have is what is the purpose of the large triangle shaped holes? If they are for a Hi-Lift, they should be smaller. Those jacks don't need any help slipping. My plate bumper is for a XJ...- BKennedy

Completed Project 93 Explorer TDI Swap
Now that you've been driving it around a bit, how do you like it performance wise? I think my 700R4 would pair nicely with a TDI motor. It has a low 1st and a high OD for highway. I also have 5.13 gears and the Atlas II, which should keep me from having to regear. I think if I did this...- BKennedy

Leaf spring pack upgrade
I think leaf springs need poly or rubber bushings. They don't only pivot up and down, they also flex or twist. Bronze bushings would force the leaf springs to twist more than with flexible bushings, causing the leafs to wear faster. My Explorer is in thr dirt at least 50% of use. The little...- BKennedy

RV Update / Upgrade Thread
Guys repairing the RV windows underestimated the job by at lest 12 hours. They didn't realize the windows have a rubber gasket holding them on the inside, and a metal frame on the outside. Most windows are metal on both sides and screw in. These basically press in and then you have to fight the...- BKennedy

RV Update / Upgrade Thread
Every time I do anything with this RV I find shoddy workmanship. I pulled the MAF to clean it, thinking it might be causing the O2 sensor fault codes I occasionally get. I noticed it is sitting about 90 degrees from the alignment tab. After I clean it, I try to install it in the correct...- BKennedy

explorer 1998, 4 door - suspension, shock absorbers problem
What you are describing is most likely from the shocks. You replaced them and don't like the ride. If you liked the OEM ride, then you should replace with the same shocks. Ranchos have a firmer ride than OEM.- BKennedy

Toggle Airbags for off road?
There are dozens of trails within an hour's drive from Poway. Most are fairly mild though and in the Anza-Borrego State Park. If you just want to get out into the back country without having to turn the hubs, Black Mountain Truck Trail is in Ramona and ends up in Santa Ysabel...- BKennedy

Toggle Airbags for off road?
The position of the sensors, and what's in front of them change the way they are triggered. The inertia switches could trigger with a softer impact on a more solidly mounted bumper than the bendy OEM bumper. Or, the opposite might happen due to it being raised above most other vehicles...- BKennedy

Toggle Airbags for off road?
Air bags are great. However, I've seen them deployed when they shouldn't on stock vehicles. When you lift the sensors over a foot from their original position, and stick a heavy bumper, winch, etc., in front of them, they can't possibly work as intended. Off roading can cause some serious...- BKennedy

Toggle Airbags for off road?
Welcome to the forum. I would permanently disable or remove them. With the lift and mods, you don't need them, and I'm 90% sure they won't work as designed. If it were my rig I would remove them. Maybe youu could sell them, they cost $$$.- BKennedy

OK, brain fart. I must be getting old. The window guys did about half of them today. Nice to see a bunch of kids 19-21 understand the value of hard work. They didn't know my window frames are metal on the outside and have a wide rubber seal holding them on the inside. I guess Dolphin...- BKennedy

What is "ATD"? I'm not up on my abbreviations. This morning, completely overcast. This controller seems to take full advantage of every bit of PV. The window crew should be here in a few minutes. Couldn't do it yesterday because of the rain.- BKennedy

Finally got the RV out from under the canopy. It's raining and the panels are putting out 17.7 volts and 1.9 amps. The controller is charging at 13.2 volts. The company that I have coming to repair the dual pane windows are supposedly coming today, and it's raining. See if they show.- BKennedy

Display is installed and everything is cleaned up. I woke up this morning thinking I was going to reconfigure the entire control panel to move the solar display higher so its easier to read. I got the controller installed and wired up. It all works. The user manual leaves a lot to be desired. Trying to wade through the settings. This is what I have do deal with, nothing is straight or lined up in this coach. I tried to straighten...- BKennedy

I'm working on installing the new solar controller. The included three meter data cable is about 6" too short. According to the interweb, it's a standard ethernet cable. Looking at a 2002 Sport Trac for sale
Lazy seller. Lost the keys, oh well. Lost the title, oh well. I would price that at bad engine and bad trans prices, so scrap value? $250-300. No more than you can afford to lose when you try to register a stolen, embezzled, and/or salvage vehicle.- BKennedy

I've been calling around to get estimated to repair the RV windows. They are dual panels and all are getting fogged up. The driver window is the worst. Bkennedy's SAS and Rebuild Thread
I think I got lucky for a change. It was/is leaking out of one of the hose fittings in the valve. I got a full turn out of the hose clamp so maybe that's a wrap. I'll keep an on it because the last time the valve failed it looked like a leaking fitting, but when I tightened the hose clamp the...- BKennedy

Bkennedy's SAS and Rebuild Thread
I replaced the heater core last year with a TYC from RA because it was leaking. There is a drain through the firewall for the heater box and it wasn't coming from there. If it's the vacuum bypass heater valve, I've replaced that twice before. They only actually bypass the heater core when the...- BKennedy

Bkennedy's SAS and Rebuild Thread
Got back to San Diego, uneventful trip. I started the Explorer while I was unhooking the tow bar. Coolant is dripping out of the back of the heater box. It's either a bad heater core (again), a bad heater control valve (again), or ? I'll figure it out in a few days.- BKennedy

Yes sir. I went ahead and ordered the EPEVER 40 amp controller. It went up $11 in price from what I had in my Amazon cart, and they only have two left so I decided to pull the trigger.
