FROADER's 2010 XLT
Unfortunately, not fixed. But... Since they told me it was the tires, needed new ones, and it didn't fix the problem, I'm going to try my best to get them to pay for them. If they didn't tell me I needed new ones, I wouldn't have spent the money to get them. I know, fat chance, but I'm sure...- FROADER

1992 soa
Unfortunately it's kind of a crap shoot. There are plenty of guys that didn't have a problem (me included), but there are a few people that have reported theirs being too short. I'd say go for it, but be prepared to get it lengthened, just in case you need it.- FROADER

FROADER's 2010 XLT
Appointment set for Saturday at 8:00am: BTF spacer install. Should be here Thursday. 4 - 265/75/16 Cooper Discoverer AT3s. They have them in stock. 4 wheel alignment. Common sense. :) Getting excited, just hoping this fixes the vibration though.- FROADER

Loud whirring noise
I just recently had the same sound at 60k miles. Mine is a 2010 v6, I thought it was in the front, but it ended up being the rear differential. The pinion bearings were shot. The guy showed me the bearings and races. Can't believe they were even spinning. Got that rebuilt (thankfully under...- FROADER

Revived because I'm going to make mine look similar to yours and had a couple questions. :) Have you done anything to the suspension in this pic? Or is it from being in the driveway? It looks level and I know they aren't like that from the factory.- FROADER

FROADER's 2010 XLT
The Explorer is back at the shop (since last Thursday) for the vibration. the trans shop they had replace the rear diff is claiming it's the front wheel bearings or tires. So now it's at Ford (bought it from CarMax, which was a great experience, but I'm over them right now) getting...- FROADER

I moved this to the Projects section because Randall is correct. Once you finish it, you can start a separate thread in the Registry with the info and pics in the first post. Good luck and I'm looking forward to seeing it completed!- FROADER

FROADER's 2010 XLT
Got the Explorer back last night. No more gear whine, but now there is a slight vibration... Now I'm guessing u-joints. The focus was nice, but it needed more caster. I felt like a drunk guy driving down the highway. I can definitely see it being a real fun car if it was faster.- FROADER

FROADER's 2010 XLT
So... It was the rear diff (still under warranty) which is getting rebuilt/replaced and I should have it back in the next couple of days. The extended warranty also pays for a rental car for a week, so I'm driving a 2013 Focus, which is a pretty nice car. The display says it's getting an AVG...- FROADER

Wheel width - 16x10 or 16x8?
Your current tire is basically 32x10.5 285/70/16 is basically 32x11.5 285/75/16 is basically 33x11.5 Check out this chart in the Tires & Wheels section to see what modifications would be needed for that. BTW it needs to be updated, but the 2002-2005 part applies to your 2008...- FROADER

Wheel width - 16x10 or 16x8?
What size tires are you wanting to get? It's really personal preference for the looks that the different width give. I don't like the look of balloon tires, so I'd stick with the 8" wide. The 10" would probably work if you get the correct (less - about 3.75") backspacing.- FROADER

FROADER's 2010 XLT
Just found out the front diff is bad. It has been howling and I thought it was u-joints. It was getting louder so I figured it was time to get it looked at and the shop said it was the diff. Thankfully we got the extended warranty so it's covered! I'll find out exactly what it is in the next...- FROADER

As awesome as that would be, I would never ask that of anyone. Well except maybe Paul... :D And that's only because he's let me borrow it before. Who knows when that thing will be ready to go anyway. dersch6221992 Dana 44 SAS, with a rear SOA
I would choose the $5000 option. Unless you're going full width, the stock rear axle will work perfectly and save you the money to spend on something else. I had an SOA in the rear and it worked just fine. You could also get custom springs if you're not happy with the stock leaf packs once...- FROADER

Willcall's 2010 XLT V6 4x4- 'Black Betty'
Yeah, I'm not getting very good mpgs either. That's why I drive the 05 Camry and the wife drives the explorer. I drive 80 miles a day. I do really like the TDIs, too. It will get better as you drive it. A friend of mine is getting 53 average in his 13 jetta!- FROADER

What color to paint wheels?
I'm not a fan of gold wheels. I think the factory color or black would look the best on that color car. Anything more than a single color will make them look "gimmick-ish" IMO.- FROADER

Pickle 2.0 - Full Width SAS/SOA 4406 swap

The body lift you want is actually for a Ranger (I believe a 98-00). This thread shows the part numbers and how to install it. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=219234 This thread will show you what size tires you will be able to fit depending on what size lift you go for...- FROADER
