    -Deathrow Update Log-

Perfect! Even more perfect, since the tour cars in the original were Explorers. What I wouldn't give for a glass roof like those...

@CDW6212R All right, you asked, now you shall receive. The Cherry Bomb 88106CB utilizes a reversible design, so while Cherry Bomb's official web site lists it as having a single 2.25" inlet and dual 2.25" outlets, this configuration will fit the 2nd-generation Ford Explorers installed with the...

Well, it's been more than a week, and still nobody has come along to tell us that 10/27 - 10/31 won't work for them. Let's give a little more time and see if any thing changes, but if not, then that's gonna be the date!

@CDW6212R @donalds Thanks to both of you. My muffler guy said 2.25" pipes but he didn't measure or refer to any data sheets, just looked at them and said so, so I thought I'd better check and verify before pulling the trigger. Guess I need to nab a set of calipers, this isn't the first time...

So to be absolutely clear before I spend the money, the SOHC 4.0 muffler from the factory has dual 2.5" inlets and single 2.25" outlet? I seem to be getting conflicting information here. I thought it was dual 2.25" inlets and single 2.25" outlet, but I don't have a proper way of just measuring...

1999 Mounty 5.0 aka My Great Bad Idea

You wouldn't suspect the ignition switch or associated wiring of having any sort of fault?
  9. D

    Project Hazey

@CDW6212R My Ex being a V6 SOHC 4.0L and with no intentions of making engine mods, I think Jamie was recommending that I keep the exhaust tame to fit the build. In the thread I mentioned finding (but didn't link to) he had recommended a larger exit pipe for the 302's.

@410Fortune Thanks, that's kinda exactly what I needed to hear. I figured there was likely some good reason that Ford designed it the way they did, and I'm not in the slightest surprised to find out that line of thought was right. So just to be absolutely sure before spending the money, the...

1999 Mounty 5.0 aka My Great Bad Idea

@Turdle's suggestion also crossed my mind, but I can't think that should be related. However, you did not make any mention of whether the issue occurs the same whether the headlamps are on or off; have you investigated that?

1999 Mounty 5.0 aka My Great Bad Idea

Just taking a random shot in the dark here, but you don't suppose it could be an issue with a door latch, do you? Also might want to look into that big cylinder of wires in the driver's door hinge, that sucker can be the source of all kinds of wacky issues. I've never encountered any, but many...

    Project Hazey

A local shop with good reputation quoted me $160 for installation if I can get a dual 2.25" inlet / single 2.25" outlet. He also said that if I go that route, he'll bend the existing pipe into a side exit. The price is favorable, but I wonder what he'd charge to bend a custom 3" pipe. I...

    Project Hazey

All right, so based on the "area of a circle" formula Pi x Square of Radius = Area it seems that for a dual 2.25" inlet, a 3" outlet would make the most sense for this application, since it is mathematically the closest to the same area. 2.25" diameter means 1.125" radius, so plugging that...

    Uwharrie 2025

You don't need a particularly impressive rig to handle most of the trails, as the hardest obstacles on most trails tend to have designated skirt paths. The only major concern here is wheelbase, as there are some high-center checks, but a great deal of the trails are passable with a stock...

@GRNMACHINE MagnaFlow, forgot to check out their lineup. Thanks for the suggestion and recommendation, that sets high expectations for doing business with the company. Will definitely add that to the list of options to explore. Ultimately I'd like to run a dual inlet, with either single or...

    Project Hazey

@CDW6212R Exhaust sound/volume isn't really a concern for me, as long as it flows well. It's a machine doing work, it's going to make noise. I did notice during the test drives and for all of my ownership that whatever muffler is on this Limited was a lot noisier than the one on my Sport...

That's exactly the sort of reason I like to start making these plans as early as possible. I'd say just to be sure he has time to deal with all of his dealings, we should probably go as late in the month as possible, but let's give the others some time to check in. Congrats to your boss, too!

    Project Hazey

@CDW6212R Unironically, the muffler appears to have been the only part of the exhaust system replaced before I purchased the vehicle. Can't speak for its internal condition at that time. The rest of the pipe appears to be original. Might be time for an upgrade... Thrush? Flowmaster? Dual...

Welp, there's yer problem. I don't have the smallest idea of how this got here, but it is definitely not the smallest of holes. I have no cause to think somebody did this on purpose, but I haven't taken it off road or run over any thing big or sharp... the mufflers on these 2nd-gens are...

@CDW6212R My scissors levers were a lost cause. Replacing them was cheap and easy, cleaning them required time and energy. I have money. It's been quite a while since I replaced them, so I might be missing details, but as I recall I managed to permanently deform one of the new springs during...

    Uwharrie 2025

The time for this event is fast approaching, even if we are planning for it to occur in October. With some of our places of employment requiring 30+ days advance notice for PTO requests, narrowing down the date as far as possible in advance will help to ensure that all of us will be able to...

    Project Hazey

Well, Hazey turned 230,000 miles this week. It's been a good ride. That's more than nine times around the circumference of the planet Earth. Last week, however, I noticed that there has been an increasingly loud rattle coming from the underbody, seemingly resonating with the engine noise...

    -Deathrow Update Log-

Good going! Been looking forward to progress here. Incidentally, I am still hanging onto those 4.10 gears (front and rear) for when we meet. You will need to provide your own installation kit, but I know Yukon Gear & Axle / USA Standard Gear (same company, different product line) at least...

Does anyone know a source for those cogs that go in the power window motor gear drive?

Only suggestion I have is a junk yard... I don't know of any companies that make just the gears/components. Curious, does the one you're working with have stripped teeth or some thing?

Status report time. Loaded up The Vulture onto a trailer and took 3 of my pals to run her hard out on a sandy stretch near the Currituck County light house. When I say "run her hard", I mean she was loaded down with about 850 pounds of people and well over 100 pounds of equipment. The ride...

I'm sure the boyos here will be fine with October. Shorter daylight hours, may be, but much more favorable temperatures. The trail system stays open until December, so no closures to worry about. If we don't get a majority of complaints, October it is!

1999 Mounty 5.0 aka My Great Bad Idea

@97Sandbox I just dealt with a super slow coolant leak on my '00 SOHC recently, mine was getting through the sensor threads on the top of the thermostat housing. Couldn't see it without a mirror. Look everywhere, you'll find it!

Intermittent no start , no crank, no click

Damaged wiring can cause all kinds of issues, some of which can be intermittent. I'd be willing to bet that you've resolved it for good this time.

@94Fexplorerxlt Let us know if it has any other issues, hopefully that resolved it!

Intermittent no start , no crank, no click

That is worth some thing. Also I imagine an intermittently-failing PATS could present similar issues to a failing ignition switch, may be others can confirm or deny. If the THEFT light isn't doing any thing unusual, then I'd ignore that possibility and look at the ignition switch itself.

2000 limited 5.0 wouldn't start after new exhaust installed. It started but here's my new problem.

Well done! It's not always that people stay with an issue like this until it's worked out.

Intermittent no start , no crank, no click

I had that issue - occasional refusal to start and random stalling (particularly when idling, coming to a full stop, or when shifting from D to R or R to D after coming to a full stop) and subsequent refusal to start - but mine would always crank. Mine was also simultaneously running a P0455...

@ProjectAviator Nope, have you got a date that might work well for you? Whoever picks the number first gets to decide when it happens, and every thing else will coordinate based on that.
