My New, New 347
This whole modified truck thing is wearing thin. I have a tic that I was struggling with finding, along with some oil leaks. One leak was on the transfer case output flange on the transfer case to the rear drive shaft. I pulled the shaft, polished the shaft (I know that doesn't sound right)...- Dono

Its awesome that you keep up to date with the latest stuff the manufacturers are doing. I just wish we all had the cash to buy this new(er) stuff and modify it. Its a safe bet none of us here would even think seriously about buying an aftermarket ecm like the Dominator for our old trucks. The...- Dono

Iv'e wondered about HP Tuners also. I love the idea of fueling adjustments done at wot automatically via wideband feedback. I 'think' pats would just be bypassed. I'm sure there would be lots of benefits to moving to a newer technology engine management system. Down side is cost, of course.- Dono

Fantastic news on the 12.9! I thought you were kidding when you said you were going to spray in 4th. Your proving all things that people complain about on your motor/trans combo wrong (other than the timing tensioners). Your trans is taking all kinds of abuse. I love it! I'm going to take a...- Dono

I have a question on converter lockup. Are you locking yours in 2nd and 3rd? I found a document that apprears to be made by one of the engineers that made my 4r70w and he says to make sure you lock the converter at wot. Since I have a triple disk converter I thought I'd go ahead and make the...- Dono

Cooling fan keeps running drain the battery!
Why not call the dealer and ask to speak with the service manager. Explain the absolute mis-diagnosis, and explain how you feel the vehicle wasn't even looked at. The servicing mechanic obviously just looked at the description and went straight to the parts manual. Even then, what does a air...- Dono

Tuning my 347 with rear mount turbo
Rick, I'm using SCT, and the pro racer package. The only thing I really don't like about it (Other than the tuning learning curve) is that you can't make changes on the fly. You make a change on your computer, upload it to the SCT tuning device, then upload it to your ecm. Each change takes... -

Tuning my 347 with rear mount turbo
ok, motor is running strong. I was still fighting a seemingly random p0300 random misfire code. I tried everything mechanical.... A few times I thought I had it fixed. What I was starting to notice is that the code would only get thrown if I started driving without thoroughly warming the truck... -

1996 awd 5.0 v8 explorer - Performance mods?
I guess its pretty easy to win a race when the other guy doesn't know your racing. That's where the one or two second lead time comes from. lol. Not what can be considered a race in my humble opinion. I'd consider my truck a bit of a turd off the line, and that's with a heavily modified...- Dono

I don't think so. The solenoid can be watched in operation though. 2000 FORD EXPLORER 5.0L V8 Heater Valve | RockAuto It's located under the hood right in front of the heater box up top. There should be a vacuum line hooked up to it, and you should see the solenoid pull when you switch to 'max...- Dono

AC Blows Cold Around Town But Hot On the Interstate
Stuff like this is why I prefer to live the pain of fixing stuff myself. It seems that when life gets too busy (Or I'm just too frustrated) and take my vehicle somewhere they either can't fix it, mis-diagnose, or just plain screw it up. A good mechanic is worth their weight in gold. Sorry your...- Dono

I was wrong, or at least only partially right. Motor would still run rough from time to time and pull p0300 random misfire codes when idling. There was a clue I was ignoring though. And the orifice tube. it will be catching the teflon from the compressor. I did mine myself when I found teflon in my orifice tube. Upon advice I replaced 4 of 5 major components. Compressor, Dryer, orifice tube, and condenser. You will need to add an ounce or two of oil when replacing all...- Dono

Slow and steady. After years (Has this been a 5 year saga now?), I'm finally starting to feel like I have something that could be considered a daily driver. On a quick side note, but very, very important. I did an oil change today. 5 liters came out. Excellent! I'm not burning oil!! Here's what the filter looked like. The fur you see is metal bits caught on the magnet. There was no copper to be found. Next oil change I doubt there will be...- Dono

Im fighting p0300 multiple cylinder misfires. I went to see Tim to see if his scanner would show me which cylinders were the offending ones. I cranked the fun knob too much. I was over 10lbs boost, and that will most certainly blow stuff up. Its a fine adjustment, and I haven't found the sweet spot of about 5lbs boost yet. I don't want to be pulling a bunch of timing because of added boost, and block longevity becomes a concern...- Dono

I don't think its terribly loud, but there is no mistaking something unusual is going on under the hood that probably belongs at the race track. The policeman I was talking to was a great guy. Probably in his late 40's, and followed me till I parked just so he could talk motors. He also...- Dono

It's the lumpy cam. I turned the idle up a bit more to try to even it out a bit, but it didn't really help. The turbo in the back doesn't help the lumpy situation by the way it almost baffles the noise and makes the exhaust note thump that much more. The muffler under the truck is huge, and...- Dono
