DAG NABBIT...HOW..found this stupid crap under/behind the torque convertor, now it sits in fully and just behind the bell housing, AND GUESS WHAT...SPINS FREELY...I don't even know what that bolt is from, looks like an engine mounting one but I have all 6, so I'm not sure. But dang that seems to...- DemonMudder

Currently whenever it seems to be "in", the end of the shaft is pretty much flush with the bell housing, that normal?- DemonMudder

So you can hear at the beginning, the sound i heard when I messed with it before, that rattle sound like somethings loose behind. But as seen towards the end, I get it where i think is in, least as far back as it seems to go, but then it locks like before and doesn't go forward, only back, to an...- DemonMudder

I'm sure it did pop out, but I push it back in, least i was pretty sure since it would only spin to a certain point.- DemonMudder

My guess is the trans, I know the engine spun fine before, and as said, the torque convertor did a similar move and spun back but not forward..- DemonMudder

Define what ya mean? It won't move unless I move it back, and I only move it back maybe 10 degrees as to not chance any damage. So forward is only that 10 degrees forward. Does seem to maybe have trouble moving back too, tried going a bit further back and was definitely taking some oomph. Rough...- DemonMudder

So, I decided to be smart, everything's bolted in, but decided to try and spin the crank, doesn't move. I can still move it backwards, won't move it far back for obvious reasons, but then it moves back clockwise and just stops, it hits the same point, and stops. Can even hear it hit that spot...- DemonMudder

Definitely squished my poor oil cooler a time or two though! Shifting the engine around to reposition, engine sat on it a few times, still decent but the top fins definitely need re-bending! Lmao- DemonMudder

Thankfully wasn't my case, questioned that several times over the hours and made sure they weren't in the way. Just for the life of me, couldn't get the torque converter bolts along with the cylinder (whatever it's called in the middle of it) to fully line up, or when I did, I couldn't really...- DemonMudder

Nope, clockwise it stops. And after like an hour, finally with some help, got it to slide in, aligned just right..took everything we had to hold it in that spot long enough to get a bolt in, even though it aligned, the backing plate still sat off, so I had to climb under, pry it to the side...- DemonMudder

Alright, any tips for getting the engine back on the transmission? Looking around the starter location, i swear the bolt holes are lined up, but i still can't get it to slide in, stays like an inch away. I've shimmied it around, moved up, down, changed tilt angles, nothings working. Thoughts here..?- DemonMudder

If you had a second gen Explorer, what engine would you put in it?
The fact that it's a sport makes that sucker so much better, less weight for more power!! Lmao- DemonMudder

True, very true, but go big or go home, shoehorn the biggest one ya can fit for the most power lmao To be fair, a 383 would fit pretty much the same too, slightly different mounts of course, but a similar size engine overall as the 347, especially compared to the factory 351 option, 350 bored...- DemonMudder

Not horrific thanks to the engine being out, but gotcha, good to mess with while it's out then I guess. Maybe I could temporarily move the cap down to the break and re-secure it down?- DemonMudder

One, still can't find the weird 4wd solenoid thing. But I may have found an issue? On top of the front diff while I was cleaning a lil' found a rubber hose on top, if i follow it, it's just capped at the end, but it's busted before the cap. Any idea if that could be an issue? Or can I just leave...- DemonMudder

Never, it literally was just that. And that's what really made it strange since I could literally just tap the pedal and it would be enough, long as the cable got tugged any it was fine.- DemonMudder

Also, this was an issue a couple years ago just before she was parked, but anytime I cranked up, she wouldn't stay cranked unless I even just barely tapped the gas pedal, then it would idle just fine. If I didn't hit the gas any, then she'd stall right back out after a moment, but long as that...- DemonMudder

Almost everything is cleaned and ready to go back on! Heads are good, still need to clean under the cam in one of them, but thenwater pump is good, timing cover is good, oil pans are just about good. Sadly I got neither, nope, decided to try something else. So the bracket itself is in good shape the old plastic just broke off. So, put the new plastic on the old bracket, so we'll try that instead. Even an extractor socket couldn't get it off, just shredded it more. Someday I'll rebuild this...- DemonMudder
