safety tips and basic safety equipment

Well once you start going out often and leaving the world behind you will want to bring along tools also. The few that I can list out are socket set, wrench set, both metric and standard, a 1-1/4" wrench (if you got a 94 and older Explorer), wire, and bungie cords. Just to list a few things...

My battery used to be in one piece

First off go to the dealer and get the correct cable. The reason for the added expenese is the weird connections on the Ford system. You can probably get a custom cable made that would work but it would end up costing just as much as a Ford cable. Thats what I would do anyways...

    Hand Throttle!

Rick I hooked mine up the exact same way you did it the first time! Only mine has a tad bit of slack but not enough to worry about. I may change it to the way you did it the second time. That would be a better way to do that. I wonder why they don't include that in the kit. Its hard to...

    Hand Throttle!

Well I just got my pictures back. All but a few of the un-important ones turned out looking like crap. Blurry and un-readable. So I guess if you have pictures of your install Rick put them up. If not I will have to wait and see what kind of camera I can use to take thse better...

Front & Rear Anti-Sway Bar Install

Having removed my sway bars a number of times I can say its pretty easy. The hardest part is probably if your bolts are rusted. Otherwise its a fairly easy proccess of just unbolting the old and putting on the new. ------------------ Ryan Penner 1992 Explorer Sport Modified

    Hand Throttle!

Paul, that would work. I will just have to remember to bring the right crimper tool along. I am going to take the film in tommorow to get developed. Its a fairly easy install once you figure out what in the world is going on. I screwed up some on mine but its still works just fine...

    Hand Throttle!

Yeah I sure like the way it works. I think since I got tommorow off I will go find some nice tall hills to test it out on. Its really nice on the cold mornings when you need the truck to warm up a tad quicker. Or when your lazy and don't wanna use the gas peddle in the city. Although they...

How strong is our front Dana 35?

Accually the braking technique can even be used for those vehicles without the aid of limited slips. If you brake some and gas some you will sort of transfer the power to the wheel that is gripping while keeping the one that is not from spinning as much. Course there is always the option of...

    MOAB II

I'll swap the grill on my Explorer with our Trooper. They look like they are about the same size. Either that or we could put differn't models on our Explorers. Like take a F150 sign or a Escort sign! LOL That would fake them out! ------------------ Ryan Penner 1992 Explorer Sport Modified

    Hella foglight install....AHHHH!!!!

When I had them installed I connected mine to the positive wire coming out of the light it self. I just spliced into that wire. ------------------ Ryan Penner 1992 Explorer Sport Modified

    Hella foglight install....AHHHH!!!!

Its the wire that makes it so you can turn the lights on. Without that hooked up with the wiring harness supplied with the Hellas they will not work. ------------------ Ryan Penner 1992 Explorer Sport Modified

    Hand Throttle!

Paul, got the new battery tonight for the camera so I will take some pictures tommorow night when the light is still there. I will write the documentation on what all was needed to do it. The pictures do the best description of it though. The only specific instructions would be to ignore most...

    Hand Throttle!

I just finished installing my Rubicon Express Hand Throttle. http://www.rubiconexpress.com/ Works great! I think it will work well off-road thats for sure! I was taking pictures half way though the battery in my camera died. So I will get a new battery and finish taking pictures then put...

    Tips for disabling Clutch interlock?

Bill, Will do! If I had a trailer I would bring the Jeep with me. Dead Link Removed I want to see how it does off-road. Never had it off-road since I have gotten it. My dad got it as a project vehicle for me when I was 13. Its now up and running for good...

What Octane Fuel Does Your Explorer Run On?

Yeah all fuel in Colorado is oxygenated. I think in the summer they un-do that but I am not sure. I have been running this for 1 year now without any problems so I think I will stick with it. It doesn't seem to hurt anything. ------------------ Ryan Penner 1992 Explorer Sport Modified

What Octane Fuel Does Your Explorer Run On?

Huh, I think its 85. Cause it goes Unleaded=85, Super=87 and Premium=91 I think anyways. You got me currious now I will double check the next time I am at a pump. ------------------ Ryan Penner 1992 Explorer Sport Modified

What Octane Fuel Does Your Explorer Run On?

I have always run 85 octane. Never had a problem. I think I may ping when going up I-70 and I am doing 4th gear with pedal to the metal in the summer time. ------------------ Ryan Penner 1992 Explorer Sport Modified

    Make your own Radius Arms..?

I think this is a great idea. Seeing how I broke one of my Superlift ones already. Its been a while since I was last under Ricks truck, but his are angled just not the same way that the Superlift ones are. The key to doing this is beef and lots of it! Specially right where they go under the...

Aftermarket camber adjustment bushings for '91?

I have not had to bad of problems with the alignment. I do use the truck off-road a lot so I have to get an alignment every 4 months or so. The only other problem I have had so far is breaking the radius arm. That was fixed in Moab with a quick weld up job. The newer radius arms are more...

Aftermarket camber adjustment bushings for '91?

The stearing system isn't what puts holes in the diffs. Its the drop passenger side drop down bracket that does it. That has been fixed now you just have to make sure you get the one that is not a plate and looks identical to the one thats in there now just a longer arm for it...

    5.5 in lift sweet

It leans to the left due to the gas tank being on that side. It pulls to the right cause all Fords with a ttb / twin I-beam setup do that. It will get better with each alignment as the lift breaks in. ------------------ Ryan Penner 1992 Explorer Sport Modified

HELP ME OUT TONIGHT PLEASE!!! Radio install

I used small screwdrivers when I got mine out. You can also use nails. The key is to push them all out at the same time to unlock the radio. There is a special tool you can buy. Although I didn't get one because just for removing the stock radio I didn't think it was worth it...

    OPEC Gives in!....Well sort of...

The best bet is to get a dual fuel system. One that can use both CNG and Unleaded. There are kits out there. You can also switch midstream for something like this. That would allow you to have good highway millage but then switch to gas if you need the performance. The only other problem...

    Convert 98 4x4 to TTB

Well I will have to wait till out 97 gets back but because of the a-arm and torsion bar design the frames are differn't. The crossmembers are also differn't. I think there are lots of differnces in the frame from the transmission forward. ------------------ Ryan Penner 1992 Explorer Sport...

    Convert 98 4x4 to TTB

Well the frames are not the same design. So that throws the first wrench in the fan. Which really just messes everything up. Unless you got a older frame to put under your newer Explorer. In either case if you do a swap its going to be cheaper to fab a solid axle in.
  40. rpenner54

    Convert 98 4x4 to TTB

It would be cheaper and easier to convert it to a solid axle of some sort. The time spent fabbing in a TTB front end would be a whole lot longer then the solid axle would be. ------------------ Ryan Penner 1992 Explorer Sport Modified
