tearing out my POS ford remote starter
What type of aftermarket starter is that?? That is EXACTLY what we want to do. We don't want another key fob on the chain (already have to carry my key, my wife's Ex key, my key fob, office keys.) We were told that it wasn't possible to have remote start with that 4-button key that has tailgate...- TxRanger351w

POSITIVE 2011-2013 Ford Explorer Experiences
In spite of all the little hiccups and bugs, I really like our Explorer. I just posted in another thread about first year blues (which is to be expected on such complex products.) We actually talked about trading up to a 2013 Limited or Sport. The ride is great, the new platform really makes...- TxRanger351w

Ticking sound from engine
Just saw this. Had the car in the shop a couple weeks ago for several TSB issues - Roof noise, windshield buzzing noise (second time), Sync upgrade, and the engine noise. Apparently there was a "pulley" that needed replacing. I sat in the waiting lane for 10 minutes before anyone helped...- TxRanger351w

Remote starter options
A close friend of mine works as an installer. We looked through the Viper options, and while there's not true plug & play method of swapping the modules out, they can install the remote start, windows, etc. You'd just lose the factory key function. This might be the path we pursue to get the...- TxRanger351w

Ticking sound from engine
I have heard a ticking on my wife's Explorer. However, we're never in a place that I can pop the hood and isolate it. It is definitely from the passenger side and happens semi-randomly. Revving the engine speeds it up initially, then it disappears as the RPM climbs.- TxRanger351w

3.5 V6 Fuel Mileage - Instant MPG Pictures
Because it takes so much effort to glance down at the dash while driving? I suppose I should relocate my gauge cluster into the middle of the windshield, that would keep my eyes on the road.- TxRanger351w

3.5 V6 Fuel Mileage - Instant MPG Pictures
Notice three things: 1) Cruise is set. 70 mph. 2) Tach shows 2,000 rpm. The car doesn't idle that high. 3) I said we're on flat ground in SETX. We've been under a horrific drought, see the comments below regarding atmosphere. Yes, this is a realistic estimate. The average MPG you see...- TxRanger351w

Remote starter options
There was discussion about having an aftermarket system installed (like a Viper?) because they are the people who make the Explorer factory systems. Has anyone experimented with this and successfully retained the "factory" functions (lift gate, alarm, panic) AND added remote start?- TxRanger351w

3.5 V6 Fuel Mileage - Instant MPG Pictures
Thought I'd post this for everyone to see. I was doing 70 mph and getting just under 30 mpg. I can get 35 mpg when doing 60 - 65mph. For the record, I live in Southeast Texas ...it's flat here.- TxRanger351w

Explorer Insurance? How do you do?
We pay $772 / year for the Explorer. 100/300/100 liability 50/100/40 UM/UIM 10,000 PIP 750/750 deductibles Glass buyback (reduces the comp ded to $100 for a glass claim) We pay less for the 2011 Explorer than my wife's old 2004 Jeep Liberty. Halogen to HID/HIR Headlight Upgrade
My point exactly. It's different to cut up and piece together equipment on a Honda Civic. I'm not interested in hacking up a $38,000 vehicle. Although, I guess if $38,000 is a sneeze then it's no big deal. Either way, I'd prefer the "factory" headlamps due to the amount of engineering that...- TxRanger351w

Halogen to HID/HIR Headlight Upgrade
Thanks for the clarification. I'd still be curious as to the process/price for the factory HID parts and then just going that route. You'd be assured of having a proper housing, bulbs, ballasts, etc.- TxRanger351w

Halogen to HID/HIR Headlight Upgrade
Out of curiosity - doesn't the LTD come with HID lights? It may be more expensive, but why not buy the factory parts to convert over? I've actually been very satisfied with the halogen output on the wife's XLT. For reference, I have a 2006 Tacoma that I converted over to HID (headlights &...- TxRanger351w

Towing without Tow Package
I've done quite a bit of towing, that's why the thought of it didn't bother me. I just need to get the receiver hitch and harness and I should be ok. I haven't really looked underneath/at the rear end to see what all is there.- TxRanger351w

Towing without Tow Package
We didn't get the tow package and I don't really anticipate towing anything with the Explorer (I have a truck and an 18' 10,000# lowboy for that). However, I thought about buying the receiver hitch and installing it in the event that we ever towed a light load such as a mini-trailer (less than...- TxRanger351w

Remote starter options
Rial, Can you post a picture of the key? The kit online says only one key is included? I wonder if I put this system in, and replaced my wife's key with the kit key, if the remote start would work? Or would that button trigger the lift gate? Certainly they can't operate off the same command.- TxRanger351w

I have a Garmin in my Toyota. I like it, I'd buy another. The windshield visibility is slightly limited on the Explorer, I want to avoid cluttering it up with another item. Explorer owner reports MFT/Sync 2.10 installation
But what does it all mean, Basil? I finally registered the wife's ride and it reported that we had Sync v 2.4. Are there additional features or functionality with this update? What is required to perform the update (do they wipe the current build off and completely reinstall?)- TxRanger351w

Sirius Signal Drop Out
I have the drops but it's only noticeable in "replay" mode. I attributed it to the system building up the buffer. It also might be the system updating programming in the background to scan for any alerts you have saved (although mine did this before I ever saved the first alert, so that's why I...- TxRanger351w

Again - this thread centers around the possibility of adding navigation by purchasing the SD card and having the MFT flashed at the dealer for those of us who didn't get it upon delivery of the vehicle. Cory, Thank you. I'll put it on my list of things to consider seriously. Is there any truth to a 5-button key coming out? We have the 4-button now (lock, unlock, panic, lift gate.) I hope that navigation is able to be added in the future (started a different thread for that.)- TxRanger351w

Adding Navigation if not factory equipped? I purchased a 2011 XLT with MFT for my wife back in April. Remote starter options
Greg, Since this is the wife's car I'm more interested in keeping things sanely stock. I have a friend who works as an installer, but I don't want anyone cutting into harnesses. What type of gas milage has everyone been getting on 2011 Explorers???
The display shows 20.6 MPG. I think this is from my wife's driving. I'm able to get the instant MPG up to around 30 - 35 MPG by using light throttle and avoiding jack rabbit starts. Of course, this is on semi-side roads at 50 - 65 mph. We've found that setting cruise at 68 mph yields the best...- TxRanger351w

I picked up our XLT on 4/1 from dealer inventory. I really wanted to wait to find the "right" model, but also wanted to surprise my wife at her baby shower a week later. By doing that, I missed out on a couple of options I really would have liked - power 3rd row, tow package, BLIS...- TxRanger351w

V8 Balancer/Pulley and Accessories Questions
Ok, I realize now I didn't exactly end that with a question, so maybe that's why nobody replied. V8 Balancer/Pulley and Accessories Questions
I'm using a 97 Explorer front end dress on my 351w Ranger conversion. I have the brackets mounted. I also have the water pump and timing cover on. Now it's time to take care of the crank pulley. I got ahold of a regular 5.0 Explorer balancer and took it to a machine shop to have it...- TxRanger351w

Hi, I'm new here from RPS. I've been undergoing the V8 conversion for quite some time now. I'm using the GT-40 lower for 5.8 and the Explorer upper. High pitched humming sound.
My first post on this forum. But this also happens on the 4.0 Aerostars. My mom has a 97 and you can hear the god awful howl from 40 feet away. Glad I stumbled upon this thread. I'll try the breather cap first, and if that doesn't work, then we can get a new IAC no problem, and at dealer cost.- TxRanger351w
