RPMs drop when heat is on? Help

When you turn on the heat the A/C compressor also engages. This is what's causing your RPM's to drop. Sounds like your IAC has crapped out. I've had to replace them even though they were spotless. Try that first.

    98 5.0 flowmaster 50SUV muffler

Thinking of getting this exhaust for the wife's Mounty. Was wondering if there is much drone at cruising speed? I do like it aggressive on takeoff and higher rpms, but hate the drone. My son had 40 series on his Mustang and 10 minutes in that car was too much. Sorry for the hijack.

    AWD Transfer case overfull

I put my wifes 00 Mounty 5.0 up on a lift yesterday to change the tires and figured I'd change out the transfer case fluid also. We bought this vehicle a month ago with 108k miles on it. The owner said it was always well maintained, but after finding the original spark plugs in it, I have my...

front grinding / binding sometimes... hmm don't know how my truck actually works???

94 was the last year for that antiquated swing-arm front suspension. 95 and up all have independent front suspension. You will not find the bushings the others are talking about. Your noise sounds like it has to do with the transfer case.

    where did my mileage go

O2 sensors go bad slowly, and are considered a wear item. They have to be pretty bad to put the CEL on, or failed altogether. I would change out those O2 sensors along with cleaning the MAF and throttle body along with changing the spark plugs.

    What is this limited switch?

That switch is used to control ride height on the air suspension of the Limited. On the off road setting, the shocks will raise the vehicle and the shock valving is switched to firm. Above a certain speed , the shock settings will return to normal since you would not be "off road". I used this...

    5.0 Upper intake water hoses

If the function is the same as a Mustang, then I would keep it. I don't know for sure if it is, maybe somebody else could chime in and help out.

    5.0 Upper intake water hoses

THE reason for these water hoses on a Mustang 5.0 was to cool the EGR block which is the spacer between the TB and the UIM. Since the EGR runs at a high temp, Ford used coolant to take some of the heat out of the induction charge. A lot of 5.0's had disconnected or plugged EGR systems and the...

    2000 Explorer V8

I consider a 5.0 just broken in at 100K, so no worries there. I had 3 Mustang 5.0's all with over 120K that saw at least 5000 RPM every day that I drove them. One of Ford's best ever!! If the price is right, buy it and don't look back. I chose reliability over gas mileage (5.0 Vs. 4.0 SOHC). I...

    15 or 16

Going from a 235/75R15 to a 255/70R16 (stock tire sizes for the 01) you gain 1 inch in diameter. This equates to about 2-3 mph speed difference at 60 (speedo reads slow) and will feel like you took some gear out on acceleration. If you have 3.73's, your vehicle will feel like it has 3.55's. On...

    00' 5.0L AWD V8 - Changing Plugs

You need the fuel rail release tool to take the fuel filter off. They are usually round plastic split tools that open up then wrap around the line. You push the tool into the fitting to release the round spring clip and the line pops right off. Takes all of 2-3 minutes if done right. The lines...

    00' 5.0L AWD V8 - Changing Plugs

Just did the plugs in my 00 Mountaineer 5.0 2 days ago and it was cake. Just do as the others say, it really couldn't be easier. My Mounty had the originals in there at 107k miles and they were more than shot. I measured the gaps at between .075 and .080 on all of them. It runs so much better...

    Back in the fold!!

After being absent from this board for 2 1/2 years I'm back. I previously had bought my wife a 98 Explorer Limited 5.0 but dumped it in favor of an 02 Expedition. Yea, my wife likes em' big. Haha. Recently sold that to ditch the $400/month payment and just brought home a 00 Mountaineer 5.0 AWD...

    Automatic Air Ride

Yea man, thanks for the great info. It's good to know we have a choice now if we want to keep the air. I think I'll have to crawl under there this weekend with my sudsy water and try to pinpoint my leak. (If it doesn't rain...again) It would really tick me off if it was a connection or a line...

    Automatic Air Ride

I'm a newbie here, but have been on various boards over the years. I've been watching this thread because my wife's Limited has bad (leaking) rear shocks and I wanted to know how you made out with these new Monroe's. What about the ride quality? I'll be replacing just the rears first, do you...
