    Water pump question

Just got back from vacation, and the yearly break down of my truck happened once again. I need a new water pump and was wondering if there were any options (better?) than a stock replacement. Also, how much of a pain is it to replace? Thanks Michael

    squeaky, rattle- rear hatch

Put new shocks, etc., on my stock 94 four door. Now, the hatch kind of wriggles and makes this rattle noise. I got out, and popped the rear window, and if you push on the frame of the hatch when closed, it moves (slightly, like a mm or so). The noise is driving me crazy. Anyone know what I might...

    brakes pulling to the right

Only when I'm on the brakes. I took it back today, and it seems much better now. But there is still a tiny pull to the right. I guess I should check tire pressure etc. One thing is that they snapped off a bolt that holds one of the shocks in by the frame. They had a big problem getting a new...

    brakes pulling to the right

That's what I figured, although, I'm sure I've hit many potholes before (with non-existant shocks) and it never threw the alignment off. Thanks, Michael.

    brakes pulling to the right

Just got my truck back from the shop, after getting new shocks, and new brakes all around. (The rotors were replaced in the front, and it was also aligned.) Now it pulls a little to the right. I did hit a big pothole, moments after I got the truck back. Did this throw the alignment off? And...

    putting in new brakes

Gotta put in new front brakes. I've been trying to find suggestions (with prices) cause I figure I could do a better job than the guys at the brake shop. 94xlt. Any help on brands/items? Thanks, Michael.

    Engine Temperature Gauge Not Working

Probably the temperature sender. It looks like a small spark plug. On your motor, I don't know exactly where it is though. I had the same problem. If you're scared of trying to do it yourself, it won't cost much to have someone replace it for you. It should be located on the intake someplace...

    best brakes

I'm pretty sure I need to replace at least my front brakes. Anyyone know of a good company for rotor, caliper, etc. set up? I was trying to find out the prices. Michael.

    Brakes?

1994x brakes- (seems one of the front ones) started scraping. There were no signs before, but I still expect that the whole front system will need to be replaced. Any advice on any component would be cool. Michael.

    anti lock brakes

If you're on ice, what should you feel in the brake pedal? I got a clicky clicky thing, and some sound like a pump going. Is this right? The brakes seem to work fine-seems weird on ice though. Michael.

    taking the back hatch apart

Anyone know of any pitfalls? I'm taking it apart tomorrow either way. Something's loose, and the lock doesn't work all the time. Thanks, Michael

    rear hatch/ window lock

Hey- I bought this thing with an aftermarket remote start, etc. Just noticed that the back hatch doesn't always lock. In fact, it may rarely lock- I tried a bunch of times, and only got it locked once. My question is: How much of a pain is it to take the back hatch apart? The knob on the...

    overheating when in 4x4 low

I just realized that I wasn't deleted. I'm stupid, and also that I'm an old curmudgen. I apologize. Anyway, when cars were simpler, I would always check the gauge first (unless it was obvious that something was wrong). A loose wire or one with a broken insulation, especially one that's gotten...

    overheating when in 4x4 low

I agree. Someone thought I was too stupid to respond to a guy trying to take a supercharger from a T-Bird, and stick it on his X. I got deleted or something, though my point I feel was sound. Esp. since the parts don't fit together. Maybe I missed some point of the 200- 4000 dollar challenge...

    slow power window during winter

I will answer my own question: The window stinks at going down. It's probablly broken, and I will have to find a new one.
  21. T

    slow power window during winter

No, maybe you're right. It really shouldn't drop noticably after engaging the window down. It's only a window after all-- I guess. The gauge stays straight up for everything else though.

    slow power window during winter

Why not? I figured it was binding on something.

    4.0L Supercharger package Deal

Don't know much, but helped a friend do mods on a supercoupe (which was pointless enough-- without going crazy). They're very different. You'll be stopping all the time and taking your giant bag of parts out at every stop. That's if all goes as planned. I respect your zeal, but I'd rather...

    overheating when in 4x4 low

Take my observation with a grain of salt: How much were you overheating? Could you hear the engine complaining, or did you rely on the gauge? 5 minutes might not be long enough to cool down that motor; esp. with it shut off. I had a similar experience (several times) with bad temp gauges sending...

    slow power window during winter

Thanks for answering two questions at once. I think the electrical system is sound. What I did notice the other day, however, was that an idle (toll booth) the volt gauge would drop for a couple of seconds after having put the window down. The window goes up just fine, if that means anything...

    notchy steering feeling

That's the funny thing, the steering wheel is totally lined up. I've own tons of cars/trucks, and most of them drove straight with the steering wheel a little off-center. It almost feels like a stereo knob, where there is a notch to show you what center is. Michael.

    slow power window during winter

Any reason my driver's side window slows down during the winter? It's fine when it's warm out, but when it gets cold, it wimps out, and goes real slow. (just another stupid question--sorry.) Michael
  28. T

    notchy steering feeling

I wouldn't call it "hard" to turn the wheel. I just get the feeling that something is worn, and wondered if this was a common sensation. It's only from 11:58 to 12:02, if you think of a clock- maybe a little less. Michael.
  29. T

    notchy steering feeling

Anyone know what it could be that makes my steering feel like there's a notch when I move the steering wheel from top dead center? If you put your hand at the 12 o'clock position, and just moved it slightly left to right, you would feel a little -- I don't know, like as it rotates, it's hitting...

tell me how 4wd should work

Should all the wheels spin in 4wd? It's getting close to winter again, and this is the only time I use it. Assume I have the wimpiest set up, 94xlt-- which I'm pretty sure I do.

    shifting into 4-wheel drive

Is it possible to wreck anything by shifting into 4-wheel high while moving? The manual says you can hit the button on the dash at speeds up to 50mph, but, I've heard that damage could still result. I'm on my 2nd trans now, so I don't want to risk wrecking something on this new one.

    high beam indicator

I posted this somewhere else-- but I'll try again. The high beam indicator on my dash stays on very dimly with the low beams on. Also, on an empty (almost) tank, one day a couple of weeks ago, the needle on the gas gauge started rising to above half way. I filled it with gas, and this hasn't...

gas gauge and high beam indicator

I just noticed that my high beam light on the dash stays on-- low very dimly-- while the low beams are on. It gets brighter when I turn the high beams on. I've been going through bulbs on the pass side way too soon. Is this the problem? Also, last week, my gas guage started fluctuating. On an...

    tranny took a crap

trans Got it fixed, all the seals, including the rear main. $800. I knew it might happen, so it seems I caught it in time. (Plus had 10 quarts of trans fluid on hand when it busted. It was enough to move it 50 yards to get off the highway.) Been driving it--it seems fine now. michael.

    tranny took a crap

I like that answer. 385/labor- 15/parts. That's fine. It's a pain in the ass to do that. I'd feel a different way if I didn't live in a city, and not have a driveway. I'd love to do it myself. But, I can't.
