taking the back hatch apart

Anyone know of any pitfalls? I'm taking it apart tomorrow either way. Something's loose, and the lock doesn't work all the time.

The rear plastic panel slides up (parallel to glass), it doesn't pull out. there are hooks holding it not clips and if you try to pry the panel it'll break

EDIT: you have a 1st gen, this may not apply
