    Radio LED display fix!!!

Pionner Part # Can anyone tell me if the part# from Pioneer, HWM0043 (this is the compound set) will work in a Ford 2000 Mach audio unit? (Ford part# XL2F-18C868-CA) I tried to order this from Pioneer Canada, and was told it is not a valid part number. It can be found on the US web site...

    Clutch Master Cylinder

I think I am going to have to replace my clutch master cylinder. It has been squeaking for several months, and now the gears will not shift properly due to the clutch not disengaging the flywheel. My local Ford dealer wants $171C, I can get a UAP for $110 (Dana), or a used one from a 1991 Ford...

    U Joint Help!!!

No need to remove the driveshaft for a U-joint, just get the C-clamp tool and do the job with the shaft on the vehicle. That's how mechanics do U-joints. Remember to tell the parts place if you have auto or manual transmission, as the manual has much larger U-joints. I made several trip to...

    SeaFoam Needed?????

I think that the reason people are fretting about the noise is that the noise is indicative of a design problem, metal hitting against metal, (or plastic) that at some point these components will fail, and grenade the whole motor.

Is there a magnet in the Differential on a 91?

I want to change the differential fluid in my 1991 Explorer. I was just going to suction out the old fluid, and refill with 80W90 GL5 so that I could leave the rear cover on, but I wondered if there is a magnet somewhere inside that should be cleaned. This diff has the plastic cover

80W90 Gear oil in Mazda 5 Speed

Slick Rick, how long have you been using MTL? Also, how cold was it when you had shifting problems? I sent an email to Redline, and they stated the only reason for using ATF is to ease shifting in cold temps. No mention of better fuel economy, but I still think this is a reason also...

    99 ford SOHC V6 Rattle

01M01Q is probably a TSB that requires Ford approval. Maybe the balance shaft that they repalced for no charge, as this is all related the the timing chains,

Do you know the TSB numbers for the work that they did for you?

    99 ford SOHC V6 Rattle

Don't be surprised if they don't want to do this job. I don't think Ford pays the dealers very much for this work, and the dealers would prefer not to have to do it. I have had mine done once, and now it is rattling again. I was told that Ford will pay for this to be done again, but the...

    SeaFoam Needed?????

Did this fix the problem? Did you ever have the front Timing chain tensioner replaced? This is the so called TSB 02-8-1 using Kit 2U3Z-6D256-AA This is what I am told that I need for my 2000, and that it should fix the problem , but there is no guarentee. I think that by 2000 they had the...

80W90 Gear oil in Mazda 5 Speed

I had a chance to read the info on the Redline web site, and it really exposes the weakness of using ATF in a manual transmission. I think I will try their GL-4 gear oil, as they recommend. Now if I can just find one of their dealers...

    Tranfer case magnetic drain plug

Thanks, I feel somewhat better. I think I have a worn seal at the transfer case output shaft, my next project. I expect that the Castrol ATF meets Mercon and Dextron Specs.

80W90 Gear oil in Mazda 5 Speed

I'm not sure what you are talking about??? Have I offended you in some way? You seem to have a rather nasty tone to your posts.

80W90 Gear oil in Mazda 5 Speed

Well, I do have doubt, and that is why I asked the question, and refered to only an engineer being able to answer it. I have sent an email to Redline about it to see what they say, and I will let you know if they reply.

80W90 Gear oil in Mazda 5 Speed

It is certainly possible that Ford/Mazda did design this unit for use with ATF, it is also possible that it may be that all transmissions are designed with the similar tolerences, and could use ATF or Gear oil. I think the only way to get a correct answer is to get a reply from a Ford engineer...

    Tranfer case magnetic drain plug

I should have been more clear here, as I was refering to my 1991 Explorer. I did change the fluid on both vehicles today, and added a magnetic drain plug on the 2000 as well. I used Castrol DextronIII/Mercon ATF in both, I hope that was the correct fluid

Air bag wiring harness under seat

I would try to have a look at the wiring, to see if you can find any signs that it may still be your old one. Look for any dirt, or dust on the harness if you can. That may prove that it was never changed. After that it would be just your word against his. I have found over the years that...

80W90 Gear oil in Mazda 5 Speed

As I said, they wanted to get higher fuel economy, not make the transmission last longer. All they have are bearings and gears in these things. As far as I know there are no special gears and bearings designed for ATF.

    SeaFoam Needed?????

Are you sure it is not the timing chains? Mine does the same thing. (mostly when cold). The Ford dealer tried to tell me it may be pinging, and that I should try premium gas, but that I would have to "spend more money for them to get farther into it" Yeah Right! They charged me $50 for them...

80W90 Gear oil in Mazda 5 Speed

I know that the Mazda 5 speed is to use ATF, and not gear oil. The reason for this is mainly for better fuel economy, and for easier shifting when cold. Is there any reason why 80W90 Gear oil could not be used instead? Manual transmissions used gear oil long before they started to put ATF...

    Tranfer case magnetic drain plug

The last time I changed my tranfer case fluid was about four years ago, when I added a magnetic drain. I have just finished changing the fluid, and was surprised to see very little in the way of metal filings on the magnet. Also, the fluid was only half of what should have come out. Does...

Air bag wiring harness under seat

I had the same code 37 on my 2000 XLT. It came on right after I vaccumed the area under the passenger seat. Turned out to be a loose connector under the passenger seat, that I must have knocked loose. I just pulled it apart and put it back, and all was fine. The connector is at the back and able...

Changing clutch on '91 Ex, need help please!

Those exhaust bolts will probably need a lot of heat before they will budge. If you try without heat, you will feel the bolt move, and then it will be too late, as you will break it off if you continue. I had to remove my plastic wheel well liner to get off the exhaust bolts. One broke...

Drop in MPG after new plugs and wires

I have had to put a new thermostat in my truck every three years or so, after noticing the temp needle didn't go as far up in the temp range as it used to. I have always used Motorcraft thermostats. This year I also replaced the temperature sending unit after noticing that the gauge did not...
