    Need sub recomendation

Good idea I'm thinking some JB's might fit the bill. My Kappa just seems week. Also I think I have M5's up front, I can't keep track. I know they are good speaks. I just like a good sounding system. Thanks for the advice!

    AWD issues

Give you the real fu#King skinny AWD is probably ok but don't buy one of these POS's if it has probs. A check engine light can mean anything. Make them fix if first. I have a 95 ltd, I'll sell it for 6500, needs tranny within a year... Besides that runs good. Burns no oil.

    Need sub recomendation

Currently I am running Diamond M5's up front off of 80watts rms. Seems to be plenty loud. My sub is being run off 320w rms but doesn't seem to work well. It is a Infinity Kappa 12". I want something that will make you feel it in your ribs. Maybe stepping down to a 10 in the right brand would...

    Tweeter locations...

I just mounted mine next to the stock location under the door panel with surface mount cups rotated up. Sound pretty good. Use some self tappers and you're set.

How to: My take on the blend door fix for 95+ Explorers (several pics)

Possible jury rig? I have this idea you know.. On the bottom of your plenum you will find a round nub that is the bottom hinge for the plenum door. I might be possible to drill a hole it, affix a shaft to it and move the plenum door to the bottom with a harness extension. Or you might be able...

    10W30 vs 5W30

well... Once the engine warms the oil is at the same temp year round. I would go with what ford reccomends on this. As much as I despise them I suspect 5w30 is the best choice in all conditions.

    POS Ford! Headlight fix!

From now on I will refer to the Ford as a piece of sh#t because it is. Now on to the meat. My right front headlight was out as were my fogs. It turned out to be a cold solder joint in the lamp out module that had broken loose on the PCB. A little solder and I was back in business. If one...

    Shock Replacement

shocks I believe most shocks are made by monroe or gabriel anyways. I would choose shocks that are spec'ed to do what you want. I don't think brand matters. As far as doing shocks your self I'd say go for it. Air wrench always helps to. Guess I'd have to ask why your replacing yours? are they...

Major Road Trip - What preparations?

My advice Lets see.. The very first thing is to plan your route. Find out how far it is between gas stations. How far of route you might want to go? Find some sites online about doing this drive. Let this decide if you need a five gallon jug of gas. Or tools. This advice is for summer also...

    Drop in MPG

Plug wires You might check to make sure they are all on in the correct order even though I bet it would run horrible if they weren't. Another thing to consider is that maybe all don't have continuity to the spark plugs. Another thing to think about is maybe something else is going on. You might...

    Rebuilding the tranny

Has anyone rebuilt there own? If so how hard is it? Are special(expensive) tools required? Is it to difficult for someone who is moderately, mechanicly inclined to do? Will the rebuild be as good as replacing it with a Ford rebuilt transmission? Mine will sometimes spin up and not engage in...

    Schrader Valve

Relieve presure? I'm not saying do it this way but this is how I did it.. Just climbed under the vehicle with a lot of paper towels and pulled the filter. Mine was not under presure but it did drain all over the place. Don't let anyone smoke near you either or you're dead. Mine is a 95. You...

Do the Cats needs replaced ?

Swap O2 sensors You could swap O2 sensors and see if it's the sensor. I think they are the same model sensor? You might also see if someone on this board has an old one that probably works ok to let you swap it with to check it. I have a used one that seems ok from a 95 Explorer. Mine doesn't...

Is that price a piece? Dang I hope not..

    Surface mount tweeters

Don't go for surface mount then You could put them in the door panels you know? On my 95 Explorer there was plenty of room to fit them in using the surface mount cups mounted flush to the door. Used some self tappers and it worked like a charm. Running the wires into the door panels was a pain...

    O2 Sensor

Replace it ASAP! They are recommended to be replaced in pairs but if you don't have the money just do the one that is broken. These need to be replaced with new parts. Make sure you are using Bosch. $50 is almost exactly what I paid NAPA for for each of my replacement O2 sensors. Your engine...

ford 4.0 trans failure? AA wants comments

700R4 Wish my Explorer had Ford paint and interior with a 4.0L and a 700R4 and a NP208. That would be so bullet proof. The 700R4 rocks! In a litte SUV like an explorer it would go forever. I used my 700R4 vigorously in my 88 Blazer with no fear of it failing. Sux that Ford can't even keep there...

    Are Explorers Disposable SUV's?

I'm just reading all the posts here and then thinking about my Explorer, 95, and all it's problems. It's like the damn things are just in a state of falling apart over 80,000 miles. It sounds like I might as well just buy a core 4R55E and keep a rebuilt one in the garage at all times! Guess I'm...

Check Engine light and what scanner

Scanning codes In the US you could just goto Shucks or an auto parts place like that and they will read your codes for free. I would write them down then do a little research. Codes don't always point to the exact problem.

Help, dash removal, blend air door

Thanks! I appreciate the help! Man this really makes me hate Ford.. I may just do the dremel tool, tap the door in the heat postion fix for the winter. I've also got a bad head light that isn't a bulb issue. It is a bad termination where ever the wire from the headlamp and the power to the fog...

    Intake HUMM ( NOT IAC)

Suggestions.. I'm theorizing that you hear the loud humming because the IAC isn't opening. This might be the throttle position sensor thinking it is open when it's not. Might just need to clean the throttle body throat and butter fly also with some throttle body cleaner. Maybe it's gunked up...

    How do test the DPFE?

EGR It it really hard to check an DPFE. It senses differential presure. You might check the EVR Solonoid(not sure how) I think it's called that controls the EGR also unless your model has it built into the EGR. I recently replaced my DPFE after getting EGR error codes. Inspecting it showed a...

    Changing Synthetic Oil

Synthetic oil in older engine I would recommend against switching to a 100% synthetic in an older vehicle. It is very hard to find reliable information on oil. What I understand is that synthetic has smaller "molecules" in it than normal oil. Normal oil also has varying size molecules vs...

Help, dash removal, blend air door

Hi all! I'm looking for some help in how to remove the dash and remove the blend air door. I have searched posts but haven't been able to find a definetive one but I have figured out that this is going to be hell to do. Guess what I really need is a laundry list of screws and bolts to undo and...
