Help! Stumped by Trans / Transfer problem

Wow, at least I got a response. I am interested in that option, but I'm afraid that all they will say is that "Yes, it's a 4wd problem but we don't know where" or "Yes it's a tranny problem, but we don't know specifically what" and then I'm out the diagnostic fee of $200 and no better off than...

Help! Stumped by Trans / Transfer problem

Hello all, My 02 Limited 4x4 truck flashes the O/D light after a certain speed and feels like it has tremendous drag on the truck after you let go of the gas. It's either the tranny or the 4x4 system so I wanted to start by testing the 4wd system. I was told by a mechanic that you can...

transmission fill adapter homemade for ford explorer

This is the choice I opted for. Pay close attention to the parts you select in the store, and bring with you either the picture or write down all of the information. I accidentally bought LFA-738 which is "Bushing" and looks similar to LFA-734, but is not compatible. Also, they did not have...

    02 Explorer 4WD Drivetrain Fun

I checked the codes, only one stored code came up "Lean on Bank 2" or something like that. One pending code came up as "Low Solenoid Pressure Control" P0775. Does anyone know if that has anything to do with the problem? That noise has always been there as far as I know of. As long as the...

    02 Explorer 4WD Drivetrain Fun

Hello again all, I just got my truck back after getting a mechanic to replace the block and all other components. He did alot of whining and complaining about the extra work, but nonetheless the switch from a late 90's Explorer block to '02 was a success, just took some messing around. The...

Compatible Engines for 4.0 SOHC swap

So is there anything specific to look for when I buy a mustang engine? If my Explorer is automatic, should I buy an engine that was in an automatic? If I buy an older Explorer SOHC engine can I put the upgraded tensioners in it, or will they not fit?

Compatible Engines for 4.0 SOHC swap

Thanks for the response, but I was still wondering if there is any real difference between a Flex Fuel engine and the regular one? Does the Sport Trac differ in any way from the others? Or will I really just be able to swap them out without changing any sensors, harnesses, etc.,? I am still...

Compatible Engines for 4.0 SOHC swap

Hello all, I was looking on the forum and eBay for compatible engines for an '02 4x4 Limited Explorer (Vin: E), and I cannot seem to find a definitive indication of what is and isn't compatible. I want to minimize tinkering and messing with this and that. I saw on another thread that ANY...

    Head Gasket Project gone wrong

Thats a good idea, I will try that. Does anyone know if a missing dowel guide pin will make the engine appear to have a "cracked crankcase" problem?

    Head Gasket Project gone wrong

Yes I'm trying to find used engines now. The junkyard we use wants $1,200 - $1,400 AND doesn't have any in stock! For an engine that *might* be over 150,000!! eBay is looking better with engines around $1,000, best was $750. No luck yet though. Any sources, insight, or ideas are much appreciated!

    Head Gasket Project gone wrong

Hello all, We got ahold of an '02 Explorer for $750 that initially would not start and noticed it had sugar in the gas tank (sugar in the fill tube, I presumed there was sugar in the tank as well at that point). Dropped the tank, cleaned the sugar, replaced fuel pump & filter, put in 4...

    02 ford explorer V6 4.0L SOHC

From what I've learned, the best thing to do would be to flush, vacuum, and refill. That aside, if I'm just topping something off I follow the "R134a Ambient Pressure Temperature Chart" you can easily find it on Google or any other search engine. Take the ambient temperature and find the low...

    Wanted Ford 4.0 SOHC V6 for 4WD '02 Explorer

I need a V6 4.0 engine for my 4WD Explorer in the Northern Virginia area, close to DC. Willing to pay up to $1,000 depending on condition (used / rebuilt), and willing to trade old engine. Must be in working condition, and mechanically sound (No head gasket issues, bent valves, cracked pistons...
