Hey guys I'm back and I have some of your answers since I did all of this on my SOHC conversion for a first gen ranger.
I am extremely busy with school right now but I will give you guys some of the answers I have documented in my huge range information binder. Keep in mind I have been...
I do believe the ones running batch fire did not have a CMS. But that was why I was asking because if would be so funny if they did have one but were wired for batch fire.
As for wiring diagrams these are the ones I like the most...
I think its more of a mid year change. If "Turdle" or someone could tell us the production dates of the differences in federal emissions ex we might have some clues. I only say this because look at a 92 wiring diagram its the same other than a CMS and EGR regulator.
FR-425
The wiring diagram I posted is a fed emission (batch fire style) with a cam position sensor. Check yours and see if it shows a cam position sensor with batch injector wiring.
Haynes shows California emissions SEFI.
Hi, does anybody know why the '93 Ex has a cam position sensor, but is wired for batch fire injection??
I don't need to replace one I only want to know why it has one but is not wired for SEFI?
Ha sorry man I know how that goes.
you have the CMS that doesn't require the special tool. Its really easy to do and i'm sure you can find the instructions online somewhere or go to the library and photo copy them to save money for your gaskets.
The regulator is on the side of the intake on...
its located on the back side of the engine where the distributor would be its covered by the intake kind of.
Its not gonna be hard to change. The other engine will have a stub shaft in the distributor hole. Just remove the stub shaft and put the CMS in. You will have to check your manual...
It should be SEFI 94 is the year ford explorers got it. It might just be hard to see the cam position sensor, but its there.
You will have to switch the harnesses PLUS add the camshaft position sensor to the 92 engine.
Another thing to keep in mind the 1994 explorer 4.0L is a SEFI engine and the 92 ranger 4.0L is a batch fire fuel injection engine. So the in injectors wiring is different on the two engine harnesses. Also the explorer engine will have a camshaft position sensor and the ranger engine wont.
You...
You could use a 1994 explorer engine harness it just might require some modifications where it connects to your body harness.
But since you are switching harness just grab the regulator when you are pulling it. It would send a code with out it.
Hi, Carguy3J
Here is your ECU(computer) wiring diagram.
Here is a 1994 ECU wiring diagram. (notice how the injector wiring changes)
The problem is Ford never put a CMP-camshaft position sensor (be careful CPS means crankshaft position sensor in ford lingo) on the rangers in these...
I went this path for my sohc conversion in my first gen. It is extremely expensive and complicated. But the problem I see with your plan is simple.
If your whole reason for doing this is gas mileage, why are you using a batch fire fuel injection computer. If you want to get better mileage out...
Littlebro294- are you referring to the bigger one in my picture?
Or are you talking about one like FR-425 posted?
But either way you are on the right track to answering my question! :salute:
Is there any possible way I could get you to take the one screw holding the kick panel on and...
4x4junkie- Sorry I guess I should have stated I was referring to federal emissions rangers. Because that's what I'm doing. But I don't need your ECU p/n because i'm using a fed emission explorer ECU.
But as I said rangers didn't get the sensor until later unless they are CA emissions. But...
Yes, Maniak that would help a ton!!
2wd shouldn't make a difference the ECU's list as rear wheel drive and 4 wheel drive so we should be good there.
If you could just take a quick peek and see if there is indeed a cam position sensor. And grab the Ford part number off of it like I listed...
Sorry FR-425 I guess I wasn't specific enough. I know how to replace them and where they are.
I am just looking for a conformation from an owner of a 1994 explorer with M/t. That theirs indeed has one And I have the right ecu. because I know rangers didnt have one this year. I am doing an...
Hi, I was looking to get a few answers from someone who has a 1994 Explorer that came with a manual tranz.
It has to be a 1994.
If you have one of these can you confirm that they have a cam position sensor/synchronize?
If it does can you tell me the ford code off of your ECU
It...
