    It will be gone soon

I've been traveling way too much for work and remiss in posting the end result. Once I got the insurance company to understand that I wanted to buy the Ford back (that took a couple of attempts) they got me to the right person. Waiting for the certificate of salvage to get them to...

    It will be gone soon

Since we had collision on it the insurance totaled it and the title now falls under PA salvage rules. The bummer of that besides we lop 40% off the value due to the salvage we have to pay for a new title.

    It will be gone soon

If all goes according to plan it will ride again! I was staring at the repair estimate and realized if we drop painting and some other minor fixups the settlement will pay for a new front end. He did not tweak the frame. So I am buying it back from the insurance company for salvage price...

    It will be gone soon

My son decided to let his mind wander and rear ended a Tahoe with the 2003 Sport Trac we got him and his sister to use. The grill, hood, battery, power steering reservoir, wheel well liners, hood hinges, left front fender, serpentine belt and more are toast. The repair estimate is almost $6000...

This might just fall under the "now you've seen everything" banner.

Help: Ford Explorer 2014 XLT 4WD got towed from the front in the parking gear!

Tow drivers have many tricks to get a vehicle rolling. I don't know if they're tested and licensed beyond normal CDL rules here in PA but they do have associations and training programs to keep up with what the auto manufacturers throw at them every year. We had a truck get stuck in mud...

2015 Sport didn't make it off the dealer's lot without issue - do I have a lemon?

I do think you're overreacting a bit but it is a brand new vehicle and they need to make it right. If they haven't given you a loaner car then divide the payment by the number of days in the month and request that they pay you for the days they had the car instead of delivering it to you...

    Power Steering Flush

I was time pressed so I just sucked the reservoir dry with a pump from WalMart and refilled. I'll do it again this coming weekend. Ford designed the PS reservoir neck too narrow for a turkey baster which I had sitting ready to go for just such a purpose having done it on my other vehicles.

    full synthetic oil

GM's Oil Life Monitor has done this from the start and was patented. As I understand it, Ford's initially just tracked miles and but now takes driving into account.

    Ground Straps

Agreed! With all of the computer driven systems, flakey data into the computer can cause all sorts of weird and intermittent problems that are hard to trace. I just noticed the Explorer has a very corroded grand strap that i need to look more closely at.

    full synthetic oil

I use synthetic primarily because of its low temperature flow characteristics. It flows! An unscientific test; I was changing the oil in my generator and using Amsoil small engine synthetic. The original oil was conventional. It was a cold day, temps about 40F and the generator was cold...

    Fuel cap tether attachment

The screw was sitting in the drain hole at the bottom of the cup area that was filled with road grime. I tried putting the screw in the hole where it should be and it wouldn't go. Crawling underneath it turned out to be a particularly big piece of road grime. Once I got it out attaching the...

    How to flush/change brake fluid??

This is the next bit of maintenance on our NTU Explorer Sport. My dear son has been yelling not to take apart his car. ;) But he's not worried about keeping it running. We just did the serpentine belt. I showed him the brake fluid (basically green) and said that should be clear. Probably tackle...

    Power Steering Flush

Excellent video! Need to do this on the kids 2003 Explorer.

    Fuel cap tether attachment

The 2003 Explorer Sport we got for the kids does not have the fuel cap tether attached. There is a hole on the rim of the assembly where the fuel filler is and I'm assuming Ford had a plastic pin there. Can anyone confirm or post a picture of how the cap's tether attaches to the fuel filler...

    Programming a 2nd key

The keys are unique and unique when they are manufactured. WalMart, ACE and whomever else do not have the ability to recode the chip in them. The chips are designed to prevent that. If they were reprogrammable, it would be a huge security flaw. The key can be cut on a standard key...

    I flushed the transmission.

    That does sound messy!

    I flushed the transmission.

How did you flush? Pull a line from the trans cooler? If so, which one?

    No O/D light

We picked up a 2003 Sport for the kids to use. Overall its in very good shape. As I've been learning the vehicle I tried the O/D off button in park and drive. I do not see the O/D light come on when the button is pushed. I also do not see it light when starting the engine. I'm guessing...

    Hello

Hello! Recently picked up a 2003 Sport Trac primarily for the kids to use. In great shape but will need a few things done. I'm pretty handy so I hope to do as much of the work as I can.
