how can I make my 98 an off-road machine?

Never said it had 2 feet of ground clearance, just that it would go over a 2 foot object, maybe I used the word clear instead of drag, but it will go over whatever is in the way when I want it to, and its not heavily modified nor destroyed in any way. Thanks!

how can I make my 98 an off-road machine?

    1. Don't care if it gets dented or scratched, its a wheeler not a DD 2. The rockers are cut out due to rust so there is no interference there, no plastic etc. just flat plate, kind of a "slider". 3. It has a fuel tank skid and modified transfer skid similar to a "belly up" deal for a Jeep, as...

how can I make my 98 an off-road machine?

Def gears! I bought mine bone stock and it had 327s in it, I lifted it and had the 33s on it before I regeared and man what a dog! the 410s woke it right up! The OP doesn't mention the power train in his Ex, if its a 5.0 its 373 he has the power and enough gear for 33s, if anything less it will...

how can I make my 98 an off-road machine?

Don't have running boards, and not that we have rocks to climb in south NJ but we have many a downed tree and I know I can clear 2 feet.

how can I make my 98 an off-road machine?

I run shackles, AAL and a TT with 33" Dunlop mud rovers, minimal trimming in the front, zero trim in the rear. Its locked with 410s and I can easily clear a 2 foot tall obstacle, just need to pick your angle is all.

    Installing/Removing a Superlift lift kit

What are you asking for it? Also I have the same problem, my sport is lifted and runs 33s, I have a hard time blending in!

    Installing/Removing a Superlift lift kit

You'd be surprised about NJ. I have actually removed and re-installed one of these lifts from a blown up XLT and on to a EB 4 door. It is not rocket science and is a lot of wrenching basically. If you want it done PM me.

    Rumbling/Grumbling in Drivetrain

From reading this thread about 5 times to follow what you have done, I think your answer may be here: Replace t-case; thinking I botched something in the rebuild or a bad VC, as I had experienced some other issues that may have been related to it (eg, attempting to drive without front d-shaft...

    T/case upgrade

If you want to rebuild it, yes there is a Dorman kit that lets you rebuild and keep the CV style end. The question was about replacing it with a ujoint, only way to do that is to swap cases. If it were me, I would go with a 1354 and double cardan shaft.

    T/case upgrade

I dont think that is doable, but you could use a t/case and front shaft from a 95-96 explorer, they used a ujoint style shaft

1999 XLT SOHC - Water Pump or Thermostat

Pull the stat, refill with water or coolant, start it and see if it runs cool, if so drive home and monitor your temp, this would avoid towing. it also may throw the CEL for low engine temp which is no biggie

    overheating and stumped

To test for compression leaking into the cooling system you could use something like this http://www.amazon.com/Lisle-75500-Combustion-Leak-Detector/dp/B0007ZDRUI

    overheating and stumped

If it pushes coolant out of the radiator immediately when cranked or started cold or hot, compression is leaking into the cooling system, usually means a head gasket.

    Pull Prop Valve?

Just did this and a sas to my 94 ranger, you dont need the prop valve for the rear disc swap. you would want to keep the master cyl for the swap, or a least a core for a new explorer master.

    Convert 2wd to 4wd questions

Actually that is exactly the way to go, you are on the right track. So you will need the front end components I mentioned above, the 4wd transmission, a manual 1354 transfer case and shifter assembly, and a front shaft ideally from the same vehicle you get the case from, if not 91-96 explorer...

    Convert 2wd to 4wd questions

same as I said; if you have a v6 and are are going with a manual case (great idea) you need to source parts from multiple vehicles, same as the v8 manual case swap. If you were doing a straight up swap on either, not using manual cases, the donor exists for both, in fact the v8 would most likely...

    33's on 15's

If I had to guess, with the 327 r/p setup, I would say this is a 4.0 ohv 4x4 base sport like mine. As I said I originally did the TT, AAL and shackles and kept the 327s for a while with no issues to the trans, it was god awful slow and had no real power. Not too long ago I regeared to 410 with a...

    Convert 2wd to 4wd questions

Not sure why it matters v6 or v8? a donor vehicle can be had for each easily, the same components are being swapped, front end parts, trans and transfer regardless if it a v6 or v8 no? if you are going with a manual t case you are still sourcing a front shaft for both v6 and v8, and the v8 would...

    Convert 2wd to 4wd questions

v6 or v8 is not so different, still swapping all the stuff I mentioned just need V8 parts vs. V6 parts is all, and a different manual transfer case. I wouldn't bother swapping in a AWD case. its not that bad a swap at all.

    Convert 2wd to 4wd questions

you will need knuckles, hub bearings, rotors, axles, front diff, transmission, transfer case, driveshafts, GEM module, 4x4 switch, system harness for the transfer case, etc unless these trucks are wired from the factory and possibly the rear diff depending on your gear ratio vs. the donor, The...
