ISO recommendations for upgraded parts for multiple repairs

Don, thanks a lot for this info! I think I've noticed my trans slipping, but it's so slight and rare an occurrence that I'm not sure yet. Question, though - if it's around $2,000 to have a transmission rebuilt, why not just buy a new one? (is there such thing? maybe factory rebuilt?)

ISO recommendations for upgraded parts for multiple repairs

Super easy, except I don't have a yard or a driveway, I don't have jackstands or bottle jack, I just moved to the area so I don't have a network to borrow tools from and I don't have a tie rod separator or liquid wrench or any experience working on trucks, soooo....not so easy as it might be for...

ISO recommendations for upgraded parts for multiple repairs

I've been subscribed to ChrisFix for a few months now - I've got too many things going on in my life right now to add "armchair mechanic" to the list, but I definitely plan on learning to do more, eventually. Wait, I thought my Explorer had three shocks and two leaf springs? So it has five...

ISO recommendations for upgraded parts for multiple repairs

Almost nothing is an "easy DIY" for me, lol. No tools, no experience and no place to work on my truck. But thanks for the recommendation! I'll definitely replace it when I replace the other two.

ISO recommendations for upgraded parts for multiple repairs

Do any of these repairs have upgrades I can order? I'd like to use better quality parts rather than just whatever the mechanic shop would purchase, unless the consensus is that whatever they order is going to be as good as anything I could find: - upper control arms (both sides) - right side...

    Upgraded radiator for 2000 Explorer?

I forgot to check the forum, so I missed your replies, and my truck actually died on the freeway - the radiator busted (no blown head gasket, thank goodness), so I just went with the stock replacement my mechanic recommended. I appreciate the input!

    Upgraded radiator for 2000 Explorer?

Great, thanks. Anyone else have any experience with upgrading their radiator?

Is the Explorer 5.0 V8 more rare than other Explorer models?

Makes perfect sense to me. Haha, good son! On a side note, one of the things I love about my V8 is that it's always had lots of torque. It's part of the reason I've kept it - it's 15 years old, but still drives like a champ.

Is the Explorer 5.0 V8 more rare than other Explorer models?

I'm sure they're out there, but I've never met another Explorer owner with a 5.0 V8, but I've met quite a few V6s.

    Upgraded radiator for 2000 Explorer?

Thanks for the reply. So the plastic ones are definitely the lower quality radiators?

Is the Explorer 5.0 V8 more rare than other Explorer models?

Haha, thanks. I was just in O'Reilly's a couple months ago and the guy couldn't find it in the list - maybe he just missed it.

Is the Explorer 5.0 V8 more rare than other Explorer models?

A few times during the 13 years I've owned my 5.0 V8, friends or mechanics have balked when I told them my Explorer was a 5.0 V8 - saying that there was "no such thing"...some of them didn't believe me until I popped my hood. Also, a lot of parts companies (like Kragen, O'Reilley's, etc)...

    Upgraded radiator for 2000 Explorer?

I need to replace my radiator and I figured I'd check for recommendations...is there a best brand/type I should get? Or will most of the radiators out there work fine (ebay, for example). I wouldn't mind spending a little extra for an "upgraded" radiator - something with better build quality or...

Hi All! Bay area 2000 5.0 V8 Explorer XLT here.

Glad to find these forums! I'm the 2nd owner, since 2002. Technically I'm the third - my ex-wife and I bought it when we were still together, it was my DD for 12 years, and then I bought it from her for practically nothing when we divorced. 212,000 miles on the original equipment. Had a couple...
