Alternator, Voltage Regulator, Brushes?? Pulsating voltage, lights, etc...

I just opened up Google Maps and typed in "Alternator Rebuild" and a few different shops were listed - once I started to go through them, I could tell which ones would actually rebuild vs. just an Auto Electric shop. I would imagine that most could find a shop in a similar fashion if they live...

Alternator, Voltage Regulator, Brushes?? Pulsating voltage, lights, etc...

Well, I reached out to an actual alternator and starter rebuild shop that was about 15 miles away. They stated they could rebuild my alternator in a day or two...and it would be $85. They would replace all the internals. I figured, since I am going to spend at least $85 on either a...

Alternator, Voltage Regulator, Brushes?? Pulsating voltage, lights, etc...

1999 Ford Explorer XL - OHV Engine - 180,000 miles - Original Owner - Sorry, long story...as I want to get all the facts in that I can... Recently, my son called and said, that after he started the Explorer, that the backlighting on the dash was "pulsing", the voltage indicator on the dash was...

    Mystery Voltage Issue

Wow...after not seeing you signed on in over a year...figured you may not come back! I'm reading through these alternator threads right now...and the amount of issues people have with the rebuilds in troubling to say the least - one guys thread I just read...went through three brand new...

    Mystery Voltage Issue

Did you ever determine what your issue was? I'm having a similar issue, but different in a way. I'm searching through the threads tonight to see if anyones issues is similar to my suspected alternator issue (I may start a thread). I'm just curious if you ever figured out what was causing the...

    Hesitation in warmer weather

@sjana I never found a solution to my 1999 Ford Explorer hesitation issues - usually from a stop sign/light. My vehicle is now approaching it's 25th year (woo hoo - Antique plates and no more state inspection required!). She's driven maybe once or twice a week now and she is consistently very...

    Intermittent Blower Fan

I've had fun with my blower motor issues over the years - from two motors going bad to finally the resistors going bad last winter. Here's my write-up & story of my issues from the original blower motor going out to the resistors - hope this helps you diagnose your issue. Another Blower Motor...

Serpentine belt length 1998 xlt 4 door w/ AC

I'm by no means an expert...but that looks like an OHV engine to me (same as mine). Admittedly, I'm just sipping from my first cup of coffee this morning! What is the 8th digit of your VIN???? Here's the breakdown of the engine codes: I got the above info from LMC Truck's Online Catalog for...

    Serpentine Belt Sizing

Well, so much for my Dayco Kit... Today, my kid calls and tells me that when he puts the vehicle in reverse, there's a clicking coming from under the hood. He says in drive it's fine and he's going to bring the car home and park it, So, later, I have him start it up and look under the hood...

    1/2" PEX = Door Anti-Rattle Fix

Any links to make sure one gets the correct ones. It seems there are different ones, depending if one is discussing the front driver and passenger doors, or the rear hatch. I did find this Door Striker Bolt setup (with anti-rattle/bushing) but I'm not sure if it is the correct size for...

    1/2" PEX = Door Anti-Rattle Fix

I was looking around the forums and web for suggestions on this repair for my front drivers and passenger doors rattle. Found this YouTube Video of someone doing the job w/PVC pipe...that he had to sand down a little to get to work. Adding this here in case someone comes looking in the...

    Serpentine Belt Sizing

Start by making a loop, at the bottom of the belt and going around the crankshaft first. Follow your belt diagram, if it is still there on your engine area where the hood latches. You have an SOHC - there are belt diagrams on here somewhere. Here's the guy in the video explaining his...

    Serpentine Belt Sizing

Sounds as if I have the shorter belt you need - I'll be sending that shorter belt back to Amazon! You have an SOHC, so that package deal from Advance Auto that I posted above would not work for you. I looked and it does not appear there is a All-in-One Belt kit for the SOHC...at least what I...

    Serpentine Belt Sizing

So, I changed things up again this morning while doing some more research into the the differences in the length. One strange thing I came across, that I did not think about, was that there is a belt for Explorers withOUT A/C. I've never heard of not having an A/C in one of these...but I guess...

    Serpentine Belt Sizing

I think I just figured it out... Part Goodyears' problem and part Amazon's problem. The Amazon Part Verifier/Checker, does NOT verify if your vehicle is SOHC or OHV engine. I have an OHV 4.0L engine in my Explorer. From Advance Auto and Auto Zone's website, I found that following sizes for...

    Serpentine Belt Sizing

Today I went ahead and was going to change my Tensioner Pulley, Idler pulley, and belt due to some noise from the belt. Figured it was time. I don't know if I've ever changed these in my 24 years of owning this. I think I changed the belt at some point?? Anyway, I purchased a Goodyear...

    Another Blower Motor Thread

Got in there today and switched out the Blower Motor Resistor. $15 from Autozone. As others have had issues with disconnecting the old resistor out of the wiring harness, I too did. I didn't spend much time screwing with it, as I knew that after 24 years, and seeing the rust on the other side...

    Another Blower Motor Thread

@J_C Thanks for your pointers... I appreciate it. My son (the primary driver of this Explorer) and I are going to get the part from Advance (or Autozone) this weekend and plan to do it Sunday. I'm going to have him take out the washer fluid/radiator overflow containers and the other piece in...

    Another Blower Motor Thread

Ok, for a 1999, the RESISTOR is down next to the motor, in the blower motor housing. Here's a video from the 1A Auto guys showing it.

    Another Blower Motor Thread

I could not see anything on the Firewall. Here's some pics. Could you let me know if you see it and point it out? I'll also go looking at the other threads. It's not "below" the blower motor, is it?? Last pic.

    Another Blower Motor Thread

Sorry...just getting back to this. Just verified again, that the fan ONLY works in position 4 (or high). Going back out right now to try and find this resistor. I'll probably be back with a picture asking to ID it... LOL

    Another Blower Motor Thread

I may have to look into this a bit more, after reading some other Blower Motor threads. Mine is only turning the blower motor on in the highest position. Nothing with the other positions. Maybe it's something more than the blower motor (which at this point is easy (and free) to changeout)???

    Another Blower Motor Thread

And here we are again, back again after 3.5 years - Guess what!! Blower motor is acting up - only runs during the high fan setting. Looks Like I'm heading back to Advance Auto for a warranty replacement!
