    shift drive selector indicator

It's been a while since I posted here. I say "Your welcome" to everyone who thanked me for the pictures. Glad they were able to help. That's why I love forums too. It's coming up on 6 years since the fix and the gear selector still lines up perfect.

    shift drive selector indicator

I'm not familiar with that. You have taken yours apart much farther than I did mine. I only had the fix the adjusting screw/wheel piece under the steering column and didn't have to deal with the top section. Hopefully someone who has done this before will chime in soon. If you can, post some...

    shift drive selector indicator

The cable doesn't attach to the adjusting piece, it goes through it. I'm sure the '97 is similar to the '99. Maybe the eyelet (loop) broke and you have to tie it in a knot or replace it. The setup is almost like the cable brakes on a bicycle where moving the shifter lever pulls the cable to...

    shift drive selector indicator

The cable has a loop at the end that connects to the "metal hook" looking thing right above it. You can see part of it behind the yellow sleeve in the 3rd picture I took.

    AWD 2001 XLT--Reliabilty/Performance

@ 140K miles, the performance and reliability have been great and I don't go off-road. The AWD doesn't have low range gearing for off-road and power is divided something like 35/65 percent front/rear. Therefore, another 4X4 would be your best choice for desert, mud and sand.

    shift drive selector indicator

Not sure. It's still 2nd gen and it looks the same from up top. You'll just have to take the panel off to see.

    shift drive selector indicator

NavExplrer, No weird noises. Sounds like you have a problem far advanced than what's being talked about here.

    It's official... Pontiac is gone

Second that. IMO, Buick is the poor man's Cadillac. Why keep 2 luxury brands? Even the more expensive Cadillac's out sold the Buick's, so should this have been a no-brainer or what?

    shift drive selector indicator

Your welcome. Pictures do come in handy:thumbsup: I though about removing the broken pieces too but I was scared about losing the cable down in the tube if I unhooked it. I was too chicken to find out...

    shift drive selector indicator

My shift indicator decided to malfunction this past Saturday. Removing the 2 steering column covers and knee bolters revealed a broken white bracket around the thumbwheel adjuster. I used the wire tie idea with a rolled up piece of duct tape underneath to make it thick and sturdy. However...

Dumb 98 5.0 spark plug question

That would be plug #3. Nothing special needed, just a long extension on the socket to reach the plug. Removing the tire, the protective flap and going through the wheel well gives you a straight shot.

    What did they do...

I think it's the same suspension, just different parts because the frame was changed for '06.

    Need More Driver's Seat Legroom

Same here, 6'3" and wishing the seat would go back a little further too. Yeah no kidding, it's ridiculous how far forward the seat goes. With the seat up that close, you would need alligator arms to drive.

Buying an '00 Mountaineer . . . . Any tips on specifics to look at?

That's a nice find for the year and mileage. You won't be disappointed. With the right tires, you'll be happy on the highway. Take a look underneath for leaks and wet spots. How far is 'a ways'? Sometimes you have to drive a little if the price is right. I lived in Milwaukee and drove...

    Should I replace?

How comfortable are you knowing they're cracked? What a coincidence! When I bought my truck, it had "brand new looking" 6 year old tires with cracks at the base of the tread as you described. The tires were probably sitting around for a long time. That made me nervous so I purchased 4 new...

    Fuel Filter Disconnect??????????

It was a P.I.T.A. for me too. I cut my filter (not the line) 'cause that blue plastic piece in the was not working and my patience had ran out. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157364 #3

RPMs don't go over 3.5 grand on 1994

In a rush? Maybe your truck is trying to save you from a rollover or getting a ticket? Are there any other problems; hard to start, rough idle, surges, stalling?

I dunno if I got a coolant leak or raditor is leaking I am not sure

    It's a journal apparently

I dunno if I got a coolant leak or raditor is leaking I am not sure

Glad you found it. I'd be surprised at the things you'll find when you open the hood.:D

I dunno if I got a coolant leak or raditor is leaking I am not sure

So where's the drip? In the front under the radiator or under the engine?

    18 gallons?

I put in 20.145 gal this past July. That was a one time mistake. It will never get that low again.

    Chevron Gas

I use Chevron, Phillips 66 or Shell. (http://www.toptiergas.com. Ford is not one of the automakers listed but I also have Honda & a Toyota product) Three different Chevron stations during the year, same problem. Coincidence? Kind of hard to diagnose something if everything is fine when not...

    New Engine Pics...

That looks great! Maybe it's the angle but the oil fill cap looks like it's almost touching the TB.
