Solved No electricity after replacing battery cables

And there it is -- I knew it was some dumb a** error on my part. I had the PDB hooked to the solenoid terminal on the fender relay. The PDB cable sticks right out of the PDB - should have seen that and asked myself how is it supposed to get power if it's connected to the switched terminal? Now...

Solved No electricity after replacing battery cables

Wrong... there was nothing wrong with the positive lead from the fender relay to the solenoid. I'm stumped. Any help?

Solved No electricity after replacing battery cables

To answer my own question -- * Shouldn't there be 12.4V to both terminals of the fender relay? Maybe that connecting cable is bad - should I try bridging the positive across both those terminals? Would doing that cause any very bad things to happen? Yes - and just like Tbars4 said, the ring...

Solved No electricity after replacing battery cables

First, the good news- referring to this thread: https://www.explorerforum.com/forums/threads/91-94x-battery-cables.250186/ Fitted 1st gen positive and negative cables are available at Autozone for under $50 for the pair -- best price anywhere. Part numbers are at the end of this thread. I just...

Must haves before it goes in the crusher

That's for all your suggestions -- I went to visit the old purple hulk at the junkyard yesterday and it got dumped in a disgusting mudhole, and the engine is pretty badly corroded and all the windows bashed out. Shame -- it was in pretty good shape before they moved it. Anyway, I'm not getting...

Brake Problem with '92 Explorer Sport

So you press on the brake and the pedal feels like it has pressure, that is, it doesn't sink down to the floor, but instead of brake you get nothing? No fluid leaks anywhere under the vehicle or below the master cylinder? Is your ABS light on? Consensus seems to be that the 1st gens don't have a...

Must haves before it goes in the crusher

You are an optimist, sir, this rig has no cruise control and no one-touch anything, in fact, in fact it only came with three wheels and I had to pay extra for the fourth! It's an XL Standard...poor-man's version.

Can't get my hatch open from the inside

Like I said, the handle has to be able to reach the latch mechanism in order to make the latch work. You might have to just get in there with a crowbar and physically bend the metal structure back into place so the handle reaches them. So, you're not changing the position of the handle at all...

Must haves before it goes in the crusher

I'll look at the things listed above. There are two things right now on my Explorer t now there are two things that don't and never have worked -- the rear ABS (the light is always on) and the 4 wheel drive. Can anyone make any suggestions as to what I should look at on the hulk to see if either...

Must haves before it goes in the crusher

I've been driving my 94 Explorer for seven years now and it's been the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned so I see no reason to stop driving it...except that it's ancient and things are bound to fail. There's a 1994 XLT waiting to be crushed at the local junkyard. I have a standard XL with...

Can't get my hatch open from the inside

This might be the same issue as in this thread: 1991 liftgate handle replacement Unless the actuator on the handle has completely broken off, getting a new handle won't fix it. It might be that the metal struts that hold the rods Kirk mentioned above are bent out of place and need to be bent...

    1991 liftgate handle replacement

This happened to me and getting a new handle won't help. The problem as Kirk mentioned above, that the metal bracket that holds structure together, had warped over time so the handle actuator didn't reach the linkage that activated the latch or the lock. I needed to get in there with a crowbar...

Yellow Rear Antilock and Red Brake lights on

The parking brake mechanism consists of a lot of little springs and connecting pieces that will rust and fail. I had my parking brake seize up because it wouldn't disengage and almost started a vehicle fire -- when I pulled over it was smoking like hell and stunk like burning brake shoes. I...

    idler pulley install hardware

Edit -- the bolt screws in all the way, that is, at least a dozen turns as necessary to torque down the idler pulley -- I guess I had some trouble getting it in straight because of the flanged bore. If it don't go more than three threads, it's not in straight so don't force it. Goes without...

    idler pulley install hardware

I don't know but here's the bolt, 10mm standard thread, and it only goes in 4 turns max before bottoming out -- lucky for me they had a '94 at the junkyard 5 minutes away from going in the crusher... They guy who pulled it said there was no backing spacer there. Y'all should check that bolt...

    idler pulley install hardware

Hey -- new poster, old vehicle :) Bad news - My 1994 Explorer's idler pulley popped off a couple days ago 100 mi from home. Good news - I have AAA with 100mi free towing. These are the only threads on the topic: 1993 idler pulley bolt size Idler pulley bolt What the second one says is true...
