    Excessive tire wear, a question.....

I was discussing this very problem with a representative from goodyear tire corp. See I have 31" goodyear workhorse tires and have EXTREME tire wear. the allignment is right on the money, and the shocks are in great shape, as well as all bushings and b-joints. the problem according to the rep...

removing body side molding- are there holes under it??????????

What did you do to fill in those holes? my 94 has the same thing. I wanted to remove the running boards for more clearance, but the holes are quite nasty looking. I was considering fiberglass, but if there is some other "cover" for them, That would be easier, I'd like to know.

Best LSD (not locker) for 35" tires

are you planning alot of offroad with this jeep, or a little offroad and more highway? I've heard of a differential you might want to investigate. It's called GOLD TRAC. I've seen it in stock cars out at the tracks, but thought maybe it could be used for offroad/highway type situations. with...

    suspension kit?

Well, I don't know exactly what you are asking, but I'm guessing you maybe wanna put a 4x4 lift on a 4x2. or maybe vise versa. There are some differences, though subtle, that make this a tough task. I have a 94 Explorer 4x4 with 3" lift, and a 92 Ranger 4x2 with the same amount of lift. They are...

    Fuel mileage: very specific!

you should feel lucky, my o2 sensors cost $130.00 a piece. I guess there are at least 6 different types on the 94 explorers, just my luck to get the expensive ones.

    Fuel mileage: very specific!

Rhett, as far as o2 sensors go, when in doubt, change 'em out.

    Fuel mileage: very specific!

Hold on a sec. Ok, I'm a little confused. You say if the FPR is weak, it causes MORE fuel to enter the injectors and wastes fuel. I don't think I understand that. the regulator is on the wrong end of the fuel flow for that to happen. or is it. My manual shows the FPR to be at the end of the...

    Driveshaft vibrations

It's always a good plan to atleast rule the shaft out as a problem, if it's in question at all, any damage to it could mean more expensive repairs down the road, like the pinion or transfer case out put shaft, they should also check to see if it was twisted during one of your offroad trips. Do...

Changing from 5 spd manual to automatic transmission?

I'm looking to swap mine from auto to manual, If you lived close to me, I'd be willing to swap with ya, then we'd have all the parts we'd need for each truck. just a thought, E-mail me if you are interested.

    Here's a weird one!!!

I checked my 94 Limited and found that one spicket in front was plugged.......guess you got it right.....have you check the engine for back pressure? or perhaps a burnt valve is to blame. check the engine compression to see what shape the engine is in, the only reason i can think of that would...

    Driveshaft vibrations

I checked with my drive shaft guy about this problem....we both are assuming this X is driven hard.....he said that it is likely that you may have a bent drive shaft, when you changed the angle of the shaft it amplifies the vibrations because with a bent shaft your U-joint angles are no longer...

    Driveshaft vibrations

First, take your truck in and make sure it's not an out of balance tire(s). after you check the U-joints(and being a 2001 I doubt you'll find them bad) look for a good drive shaft shop, have the drive shaft(s)checked for balance as well. Usually when a U-joint is bad, the vibration is constant...

What causes an engine to burn oil? My 93 burns oil

The bolts you are looking at are the upper manifold bolts, these have to come off to get to one side of the lower manifold, the lower manifold is what the upper one bolts to. Past experience has shown that the valve guide seals are most likely your culprits. These are not too easy to do, but if...

What SUV would you have if you didn't have an explorer?

If I couldn't have an Explorer.......I'd have to say that the Excursion would be my next choice, but not so much for off roading, it's way too big for that........but what about a custom suspension and monster truck tires?? Bet that'd turn some heads.

    Fuel mileage: very specific!

What do you have to do to change the pressure in the FPR? And how would it change fuel mileage? I've changed all the sensors already, anticipating that that would help, no luck, but I keep hearing about the FPR being a dastardly unit causing bad fuel mileage. I'm just curious why?

    Tranny Reuild soon under way.

Thanks Slim, those are definitly helpful, put a bid in already for one of the kits. I've never used e-bay before, I hope it works!

    Fuel mileage: very specific!

I have a 94 4.0L V-6 with auto. BUT I have 31's with the same gearing you have. my mileage sucks too. I can't be specific with MPG but I'm eating a tank at about every 150 miles, combined highway and town.

    Tranny Reuild soon under way.

Hey guys, I'm with you!! I'm driving it now, but it won't be long till she runs out of working gears!!! My problem is with second right now, but I'm sure third will get real tired of pulling the load by itself. What I'm curious about is these synthetic ATF fluids..... what brand do you recomend...

    Tranny Reuild soon under way.

Hello Slim, my trans has 130,000+ miles on her, and she lost second gear, it started slipping and after a very short time just lost second altogether. There haven't been any warning signs other than the slipping, no burnt fluid only mildly darkened, and no shavings in the pan. Initial cost...

    Tranny Reuild soon under way.

Tranny rebuild under way soon!! Ok, for any of you interested in this, I've priced a trans rebuild kit for the 94 Explorer I own and will start dissassembly soon, hopefully reassembly will be shortly there after. the kit price was $145.00 I don't know if it comes with bands or not, but at this...

    High milage explorers?

I have a 94 limited with 130000 miles sporting a three inch lift, 31 inch tires and matching Warn manual hubs. all Ball joints and all bushings were replaced not because of wear, but because it was easier to change while the components were out of the vehicle. (ounce of prevention=pound of cure)...

    Tranny trouble

MDRUT, thanks for the Info, I'm certain it's not slipping, however it won't stay in second gear. I'm willing to give the valve body a shot, but could this problem be electrical? I'll bet a shift kit may just be the ticket though. if it doesn't solve the problem, perhaps it will help locate it.

    Tranny trouble

Hey guys, I'm fairly new here, and maybe you've covered this topic before. I have a 94 explorer limited with 3" lift and 31's. problem is I kept the stock gearing (which i believe is 3:22) and now i'm having tranny trouble. The trans doesn't want to stay in second gear. when it does stay in...
